Overview:

Keith Wardlow—Myco Phil's Mushrooms

Keith Wardlow purchased a gourmet mushroom grow kit five years ago and began an exciting journey into the science of mycology and producing delicious fungi for the public! He is self-taught and developed his cultivation methods and techniques by observing other mushroom farmers and exploring social media.

What began as a hobby, soon became more than he and his family could eat on their own, so he did what all true entrepreneurs do and opened a business—Myco Phil’s Mushrooms! Keith is a regular vendor at a number of local Farmers’ Markets, where he not only sells his in-demand varieties of gourmet mushrooms, but also provides home growing kits/supplies and dry soup mixes!

Keith is among a small group of independent mushroom farmers who have broken into the untapped markets of Genesee and surrounding counties. To diversify his revenue streams he has made sales available online, and created new wholesale opportunities for Myco Phil’s Mushrooms within the food truck and restaurant community.

When he isn’t harvesting mushrooms or making substrate, he is engineering custom improvements to his equipment for better efficiency and production! His next mission is to get more young people excited about the interesting world of mushrooms and share his knowledge and experience with others.
