Refresh Maisie and puppy day camp puppies had a great time today!

Maisie is here for a refresh due to some recently developed reactivity. She did a great job working amongst all the other dogs and not showing any insecurities.

The rest of the puppies worked on their puppy day camp tasks!

Barley is on week 5, which is beginning to proof behaviors, as well as working on the settle command. She worked on settle while Maisie was working, she also worked on grooming, and her leash walking foundation.

Charlie worked on holding her position, in both a sit and a down. She worked on it on place as well as off place. Such a little smarty!

Bear worked on his leash walking foundation, he has such great focus and food drive.

Pumpkin is on her graduation week, so she worked on rehearsing all of her commands! Come, down, Place, Sit, and holding her position. She’s come so far over the last six weeks!

We have 2 friends named Rosie here today!

Rosie the Newfy started working on distractions today, and spent some time walking around the parking lot with busy strip mall traffic.

Harley is still working on his foundation training, today it’s leash walking and his work. He’s doing well working with his trainer on his new tasks, working hard for food.

Rosie the GSP started her first day of training today, so there’s some video of her arrival this morning, reacting to the trainer, followed by one of her training sessions today. She’s establishing a relationship with her trainer, working on the place concept.

We had several field trips today!

Fig and June both took trips to TSC, then Daisy and Wyatt took trips to Gil Roys Hardware.

Fig is a very exuberant fellow, so self control in public is difficult for him. But he did a great job!

June is a little fearful/low confidence when she’s in public, but she showed us how brave she can be working near all the loud sounds and foot traffic at the feed store.

Daisy is also a social butterfly, and did fantastic for her first field trip to a new place!

Wyatt graduates today, and his last field trip was also a very successful trip. We can’t wait to watch him continue to improve in group class!

We took Stella, Baron, and Ranger, all on a field trip at Magoos Pet Outlet! They all did a great job maintaining their loose leash walking foundation, and paid great attention to their handlers.

Oliver, Junie, and Elliot, all working on our week 1 foundation training place and sit work.

Athena is here for a refresh day! She trained with us a few years ago, but is here to get back on track with training since she’s not been very welcoming to the new baby in the house. So she spent the day working with our junior handlers to freshen up her skills.

We have 3 new Day Train friends today!

Junie is a foodie, and that has gotten her into some trouble. She’s food obsessed, and has shown resource guarding toward her humans and the other dog in the home. The behavior has recently escalated and she’s now also guarding her toys she thinks the other dog wants, even though it shows no interest. She’s here to learn some better boundaries and self control.

Oliver is a young herding breed dog, exhibiting typical herding breed behaviors — car chasing, nipping, barking, he also gets running in the yard and won’t respond to his owners when they recall him. He’s here to work on his bite inhibition, and learn a better outlet for his energy.

Elliot has a history of dog aggression that has been somewhat managed by his owners, but recently he’s bitten at 2 different people coming through his door — people he’s known and previously been friendly with. He’s here to work on his self control, and to work through these big feelings he’s experiencing.

Puppy day camp puppies were a riot today!

Pumpkin is on week 5, so she’s starting to proof her behaviors. She worked on leash walking in the busy training room, as well as holding her sit/stay and recalling.

Bear is the new kid on the block, he worked on place and sit today.

Charlie worked on her leash walking foundation today. She’s doing a great job following a food lure and beginning to understand the difference with lure in motion.

Barley is on week 4, so today she worked on her recall in our service hall. She had a hard time leaving our junior handler, so she was encouraging her to leave by throwing the treat for Barley to run after, then immediately recalling her with the come command. Great job today, puppies!

Day train Daisy is on her 3rd week, so we began distraction training today. She worked out in front of the building and did a fantastic job around the busy parking lot.

Harley started his week 1 foundation training today, working on establishing a relationship with his trainer and learning the place concept.

We had several field trips to Magoos Pet Outlet today!

Mazie and Punkey are family members that don’t get along very well, so they spend their day working together without fuss. These 2 are graduating to group class together after today, to continue building their relationship with calm, neutral interaction.

Fig and June both took their first field trips today to work in public. These 2 are both very young, so new settings with lots of distractions is a challenge — but they both handled it very well!

Luna is highly fearful — so terribly so, her owner wasn’t even able to get her out of her house. And look at her now working with trainer dog Rev in public! Next step for Luna is group class as well!

We’d like to welcome Bear and Harley to their first day of training!

Bear is here for his first day of puppy day camp, so he’ll be working on the place concept and sit command.

Harley is here for behavior medication on his first day of day train. He’s shown aggression toward people, and has a few bites under his belt. He’s here to learn self control, build his confidence, and as his owner says it, learn he’s a dog and not a human!

We talk about this all the time with clients! Physical exercise is very important, and we never want to discourage people from getting out and doing stuff with their dogs. However, we also want to stress the importance of MENTAL exercise!

Mental exercise is equally or more important than physical exercise. Mental = teaching new behaviors, new environmental exposure, practicing self control, putting training into your physical activities.

This leads us to the last part of the meme, teaching your dog to relax. Lots of dogs come with this built in, if you have one of those dogs, this message is not for you 😂 but so many dogs are on the go all the time, demand games of fetch, create their own jobs that are undesired behaviors… between your physical and mental exercise sessions, teaching your dog to relax is also very important.
