Today we observe Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865 – the day enslaved people in Texas finally learned of their freedom.

This was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

And so with this, this day marks both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of how long justice was delayed. Juneteenth represents not just a historical milestone, but the ongoing fight for true equality and justice that continues today.

As we learn about and honor this important day, we’re reminded that understanding history – including the difficult parts – helps us learn how we can do better and helps us build a more equitable and inclusive community going forward.

But guess what? Education and action go hand in hand. So let’s take action! Today, we encourage everyone to take time to learn more about Juneteenth’s significance and to support Black-owned businesses in our community.

There is no excuse not to make your next stop intentional – choose a Black-owned business for your next meal, shopping trip, or service need-
We’ve even made it easy!

Attached in the comments is a resource that will help you choose an amazing place that you will love without any of the leg work. Every purchase is a vote for the kind of community we want to build.

🏠 Introducing a Game-Changing Solution to Our Community's Biggest Animal Welfare Challenge

The Challenge: Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed. Dogs cycle through the system. Fosters burn out. Adoptions fail. Not because people don't care or because the dogs are damaged in any way - but because they lack access to professional-level guidance when they need it most.

Our Solution: A comprehensive professional education initiative that provides expert-level training resources directly to foster families, new adopters, and the organizations that support them - creating a complete support system from shelter to forever home.

Introducing The K9 Turbo Training & Second Chances Animal Resources Community Education Initiative - a 6-month shelter and adopter education pilot program, running July-December 2025.

How We're Addressing This:

🎯 For Foster Families: Monthly 2-hour professional sessions covering decompression, body language, and behavior management - giving fosters the confidence and tools they need to help more dogs succeed.

🎯 For New Adopters: Monthly 90-minute sessions targeting the exact challenges that cause returns - equipping adopters with essential knowledge on the topics that matter most based on what we see in our community. Because knowledge prevents heartbreak for both families and dogs.

🎯 For Organizations: Complete support systems and resources - because when rescues have professional backing, more lives get saved.

🎯 The Goal: Address the community's most critical animal welfare need by bridging the resource gap between professional expertise and the people working directly with and adopting shelter dogs. Because when organizations, fosters, and adopters have access to expert-level training resources, outcomes improve across the board - fewer returns, more confident caregivers, and ultimately, more lives saved.

💡 Why This Pilot Matters: This initiative directly addresses the resource gaps we see every day. Our partner organizations will track the impact through:

Reduction in return rates
Increased foster confidence and retention
Increased adopter confidence and access to resources
Enhanced community engagement
Most importantly: more dogs finding and keeping their forever homes

🤝 Our Pilot Partners: Detroit Animal Care and Control, Rejoyceful Animal Rescue, I Heart Dogs, and Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society are joining us in this 6 month pilot initiative.

This program is proudly sponsored by Second Chances Animal Resources, Inc., a wonderful nonprofit that provides valuable resources for animals in our community. We've included a link to support their mission in the comments.

Let's help Second Chances Animal Resources, Inc. reach their $2,500 goal! This is a great organization that ensures local rescues meet their most urgent needs to continue supporting the animals in our community!🐾🥰

UPDATE: You are all truly amazing!❤ Because of the tremendous amount of shares in the last few hours and because donations are still coming in, we've extended this through Thursday so we don't miss anyone who still may want to donate! We're up to $1,900 so let's keep this going and see if we can meet our goa!

TODAY is the LAST DAY friends!

We've only reached $580 out of our $2,500 goal,so you can see we are way short! Can you help us get there or at least get close?

This project focuses on some of the sources of the problems leading to overcrowded shelters, such as:

-Microchipping to help get dogs back to their owners
-Spay and Neuter to help with overpopulation and,
-Education which is one of the keys to success

Once a year, we will be providing funds to a non-profit that is proactively working on this goal. Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society will be the first recipient of this project. They already have an event in the works to address these issues, so every dollar helps no matter what the amount!

Below are just a few examples of where your donations to this program can go:
$5 - Heartworm tests
$10 - Microchips
$15 - Heartworm Preventative
$75 - Cat Spay and Neuter
$125 - Dog Spay and Neuter

If you can, please donate, by clicking the link below and like, comment and share this post to spread the word! 👇

🌈 This Pride Month, we celebrate the beautiful diversity within our K9 Turbo Training family and community! ⭐️

At K9 Turbo Training, we are so proud to be a safe, welcoming space for all people, including our incredible LGBTQ+ team members, clients, and supporters.

Just like we so firmly believe every dog deserves to be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect, so does every person.
But our commitment to inclusion isn't just for one month – it's who we are year-round.

Because training is about building understanding, trust, and connection – values that extend far beyond our work with dogs. We're grateful to be part of a community that celebrates authenticity, embraces differences, and shows up for one another.

To all our LGBTQ+ friends, clients, and community members: you are seen, you are valued, and you belong here. Thank you for making our community stronger and more vibrant. 🐾

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

🌟 Private Training Win! 🌟

We are SO proud of Fiona and her incredible progress, and even prouder of her amazing guardians for staying consistent, patient, and committed to the process. 💪🐾

Here’s what her mom had to say:

“Sharing another victory. You guys may remember the anticlimactic video of Fiona getting her harness on last week — a HUGE deal for us. Fiona struggles with compulsion issues and gets overstimulated easily.

Today was her first walk in the neighborhood in MONTHS, probably since September. And for the first time since we started behavior modification in December, I was able to put her harness on and grab the leash without drama, barking, or overstimulation.

Even better? I had a calm conversation with a neighbor while on the walk. We only had two small meltdowns, which honestly felt like a win. She calmed down faster than ever before.

Be patient. Training works. Progress takes time. I’m so proud of her and so grateful for the support we’ve had from both Rachels to get to this point.” 🐶💕

Every small win is a step toward lasting change. Let’s celebrate the progress! 👏👏👏

Shelter Breaks are close to our hearts at K9 Turbo💛

We’re proud to partner with local rescues to give these incredible pups a break from the stress of shelter life and a chance to just be dogs: to play, explore, and soak up some love!

Meet our recent visitors from Detroit Dog Rescue: Binx, Izzy, and Thor ✨

Each one is full of personality, resilience, and love to give and they’re all searching for their forever homes.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a new member to your family, these three are ready to steal your heart. 💕🐾

The more we learn about dogs, the better we can help them. Research consistently demonstrates that training that involves punishment, even if it is punishing “bad” behavior (which is its own topic) actually **increases likelihood of future aggression!** 😮🔥

Do your homework when choosing your trainer and their methods. It matters ❤️

Does Training Method Have a Relationship to Behavior Problems?
This study evaluated associations between training method and dog behavior problems. Fearful and aggressive behaviors were MORE likely to occur in dogs trained with punishment. Fear and aggression in dogs are emotional health issues - punishment of these behaviors increases both!
