Horses are like water. They follow the path of least resistance. Start where your horse is today, shaping and building your stream. Allow *time* for the water to find its way. You just set it up and let the horse find it. Soon enough, you will find small streams have turned to vast rivers. Small first steps have grown into intricate maneuvers. Full moon this weekend! Great time to deworm your horses, when parasites are most vulnerable because they detach from organ walls to breed and lay eggs. Take a f***l sample in to your local vet to get an FEC (f***l egg count) to determine whether you need to deworm as well as which types of parasites you’ll need to control.

Here’s a colt I started this last spring. He has about 60 days on him in this video, going bridless.

Jewel checking out the saddle this morning. This 2 year old halter filly belongs to one of my favorite clients ever, Jessica Smith. She takes such amazing care of her super nice horses and I feel so blessed to be the one that gets to train them! I love that even though Jessica raises incredible halter horses, she still wants them to have a job outside of showing in halter. Jewel was so good for being saddled for the first time that I texted Jessica and asked if she had ever been saddled before! Nope! Just a good minded filly #jewelofthecarribean #jewel #coltstarting

Ranger helping me pony colts today. I got this 3 year old gelding in to start in April and he has become one of the steady Eddie's around the ranch. He's headed home next month and I'm going to miss him! He turned out to be pretty cool. Also, look how grown up Bristol is looking!

Watch this short video on how to turn your stirrups. It can be a pain in the neck (and the knees!) to ride in a saddle that doesn't have turned stirrups. I briefly talked about this at the clinic on Saturday, here's a video showing exactly how to do it!

I got to squeeze in one last ride on Casper before he sold. I have to check my dates, but I think he had close to a year off! He picked up right where we left off and remembered everything I taught him. He is a super cool horse and I am so glad he found such an amazing home with Susan!!
