Heimlich Maneuver for Dogs

1. Lift the dog up off the ground, pulling him against you with his spine pressed against your chest.

2. Wrap your arms around the dog at his waistline. This might feel clumsy or counterproductive at first, but it is important that you do it this way. Even if your pet is wiggling, muster your strength to keep them under control in this position.

3. Make a fist with one hand and place it just behind his last rib – wrap your other hand around the fist.

4. Push in and up with your hands in 5 quick thrusting motions.

5. Open the dog’s mouth to check for the foreign object and remove it, if possible.

6. If you cannot remove the object, lift the dog and turn him upside down then sweep your finger into the mouth again to dislodge the object.

7. If the object remains stuck, place your dog over your lap (or stand him in front of you) and administer 5 sharp blows with your open hand to the dog’s back between his shoulder blades. This should hopefully dislodge the object allowing the passage of air.

8. Open the dog’s mouth and check again for the object – remove it by hand, if possible.

9. Repeat this procedure until the object becomes dislodged or your dog falls unconscious.

10. If your dog falls unconscious, administer 5 rescue breaths and repeat the 5 abdominal thrusts, continuing the pattern until the object is dislodged.

From the USCA National Breed Warden:

Coat type breeding, further information/clarification.

Breeding 1 stock to stock hair:
ALL progeny from a stock coat to stock coat breeding can be USCA registered (provided both parents meet Basic level after 1/1/2025). It doesn't matter if they are stock or long stock hair progeny out of this stock to stock breeding, all can be registered if all requirements are met.

Breeding type 2 longstock to longstock:
ALL progeny from longstock hair to longstock hair breeding can be USCA registered (provided both parents meet Basic level after 1/1/2025). All puppies from this breeding will be longstock hairs and all can be registered if all requirements are met.

Breeding type 3:
Puppies from a stock to longstock hair breeding are not USCA register-able. This is against WUSV regulations and it is not supposed to happen anywhere within WUSV, not just USCA.

If you have a long stock hair from breeding 1 stock to stock, you can proceed to do anything you want anywhere in WUSV, according to the remaining rules/regulations. The only thing you must do is breed that longstock hair to another longstock hair.

This does not include AI breedings. One topic at a time now, as I have time.
