🇺🇸🐾 NEW PAIRING ALERT 🐾🇺🇸

Isn't it clear how these two are absolutely smitten with each other? Meet Brandon and Pac Man, a match made in heaven.

Brandon, an Army veteran who has bravely served overseas, found his perfect companion in Pac Man through our Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) foster program. Pac Man, a sweet and lovable two-year-old, came to HSHC as a stray and struggled to adjust to the chaos of the shelter. But when he met Brandon, everything changed. Though they first crossed paths through our foster program, Brandon and Pac Man quickly became inseparable. Now, thanks to our Pets Healing Vets program, they are officially family – proving just how powerful the bond between a veteran and their dog can be.

Together, they’ve found comfort, companionship, and healing — a beautiful reminder of the special connections we’re so grateful to help create. This Veterans Day, we honor the brave men and women who have served our country. We are especially grateful for the veterans who find comfort, healing, and companionship through our Pets Healing Vets program, which pairs veterans with shelter animals in need of homes.

Today, veteran George brought his pets, Star and Spirit, to Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) for their annual vaccines and check-up. They’re looking as healthy and happy as ever! 🇺🇸🐾

When we say that Pets Healing Vets is life-saving, we don't just mean for the veterans...

When Brutus came to the Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) as a stray in 2022, he was reactive, wary of new people and would bark and lunge in his kennel. In a nutshell, he was misunderstood – and needed someone who could see past his facade.

It wasn't until seven months later that someone would come along – veteran, John, who had lost his Pets Healing Vets dog Jameson just months ago. Brutus was a spitting image of Jameson, and John was up for the challenge – after all, he had helped rehabilitate and transform Jameson many years ago.

With the help of our friends at Paws & Play Dog Resort & Training Center and months of dedication and consistency on John's part, Brutus have made huge strides in his socialization and behvior. Last weekend, training took place at Lowe's – for Brutus, being in a populated store is a huge feat in and of itself. Not only did he show off his magnificent leash skills, but he kindly greeted strangers, handled loud noises and crowds with bravery, and made everyone rooting for him proud.

If Brutus had ended up at any shelter othan than the Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana), it's likely he would have been euthanized due to his behaviors, which were really just a result of his fearfulness. But, we saw the dog he could be – and more importantly, so did John. Because of that, Brutus is alive and thriving today.

Dolly took her (unassigned) job of sniffing out squirrels at the event very seriously. Good job, Dolly!
