Our Patient Care Coordinator Spotlight this week is Liz!

"My role as a Patient Care Coordinator for Neurology is to find out what our client and patients need and to advocate for them so as to help our hospital meet their needs and expectations. My job is to make sure that our clients and patients receive the best care from our Neurology Department. This makes it possible for them to have someone who can gather information and answers to their questions, give them understanding of what will be happening with appointments/advanced imaging/surgery and other services that we offer. I act as a liaison between our staff and our clients to provide the best specialized care possible to their loved ones. Each day I talk with clients and assist them with making decisions.

My favorite part of my job is when I am able to connect personally with clients and their pets to see where we were and where we have gotten to. When I receive or call clients, their excitement to talk with me and share their journey is the best part of my day. Although not every call is like that, and sometimes it may not be good news, I can know that I, with the neurology team, did our best to help that person."

"As the triage coordinator, I am often the technician you'll speak with over the phone, and one of the first faces that you will see when you arrive to VCA. My job is to briefly speak with you regarding your pet's symptoms, and obtain initial vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, etc). With that information, your pet is labeled either stable, urgent or critical. We make every effort to see your pet in a timely fashion, but just like a human Emergency Room, we never know what will walk through the door! That anticipation is what has kept me in the field for over 30 years. I hope to never have to see your pet at VCA, but if you do find yourself in need of emergency, know that we are always here to help!"

WE HAVE A CHAMPION IN THE HOUSE (again 😉)

Last month, Bowie, owned by Amy (radiology RVT), competed in the 2025 North American NOTRA (National Oval Track Racing Association) Whippet National race meet, which is one of the largest in history with 114 Whippets entered!

After four spectacular, undefeated races, Bowie came out on top for the second year in a row! He continues to prove what an incredible athlete he is through his love for racing. ❤️

Bowie also earned 1st place in the conformation match prior to racing, taking home the title of Best Race Champion Dog! This achievement showcases not only his athletic ability but also his exceptional structure, true form and function in harmony.

This year’s event was especially exciting (and a little nerve-wracking) for Amy, since Bowie has been rehabbing from a couple soft tissue injuries that he sustained in April. Thanks to a dedicated team of veterinarians, especially those at VCA AVCC, Bowie was healthy, confident, and ready to race! 🏁💪
