Bane is living proof that life’s tough breaks can’t keep a good dog down. He’s equal parts goofball and cuddlebug, with a flair for the dramatic. One second he’s zooming around, then the next he’s curled up in your lap, convinced he belongs there.

He loves walks, hanging out in the yard, and long snoozes on the couch. Doesn’t that sound like the perfect companion?

Bane is 2 years old, has already passed his cat test, lived with another dog, and is open to meeting potential dog siblings here at the shelter. He’d also be happy in a home with kids 8 and up.

He’s not looking for perfect. Just someone to love him back. ❤ Come meet Bane during adoption hours, 12 to 5 daily (closed Wednesdays).

🐾 Meet Gene! 🐾
1-Year-Old Cat for Adoption | There's Love In His DNA

Found as a stray, this handsome kitty's history is a mystery to us. What we do know is that he’s ready to write a brand new chapter with someone special. 💛

I visited Gene today, and it was clear: he’s lonely, but he hasn’t lost hope. As soon as I approached his kennel, he looked up with the softest, most curious eyes and greeted me a happy purr and gentle head-butts. (He’s a big fan of ear scratches, just a heads up!)

He even showed me a pretty impressive trick, rolling over proudly to show off all his toe beans in a big stretch. Maybe it was his way of saying, “Look what I can do!” Or maybe he was basking in his little moment affection from a loving human.

Gene isn't asking ask for much, just someone to see him, to love him, and to give him the warmth of a home he's never experienced before. His striking eyes and sweet little face are impossible to forget, but it’s his gentle spirit that stays with you.

If you’d like to meet Gene, he’ll be waiting during our adoption hours, 12-5pm daily. To save time, apply now at hshcadoptions.com, then just come in to meet him. No appointments necessary.

Thank you, Barkefellers - Indy Northeast, for continuing to support our shelter!

In addition to being loyal corporate sponsors, the Barkefellers team treats some of our dogs to daycare visits, giving them a much-needed break from the shelter and a chance to play, relax, and recharge.

Steven here had a great visit with Barkefellers, and as you can see, he made lots of new animal and human friends! Short breaks like these keep Steven and many of our animals happy and energized while they wait for their forever homes.

Barkefellers' support makes tails wag and hearts full, ours included. Drop a “Thank you, Barkefellers!” in the comments, and next time your pup needs daycare, boarding, or grooming, pay them a visit and tell them HSHC sent you!

Bo is two years old, 95 pounds, and absolutely convinced he fits in your lap. And we’re not going to tell him otherwise. This big, affectionate boy is a total showstopper who lives for love and connection.

He’s crate trained, walks nicely on leash once he hits his stride, and loves being part of the action, whether that’s a walk, a yard zoom, or a good old-fashioned cuddle session. Bo has that perfect blend of playful energy and deep loyalty that makes you feel like you’ve hit the canine jackpot.

He’s done well meeting new people and other dogs, and if you have a pup at home, we’d love to set up a meet and greet. He hasn’t been tested with cats yet, but we’re happy to do that if needed. Bo is looking for a home where any kids are at least 8 years old. He’s a big guy who sometimes forgets just how big, so a family with dog-savvy kids will help him shine.

Come meet Bo at the shelter during adoption hours: 12 to 5 daily (closed Wednesdays). He’s waiting to make your life a whole lot sweeter! 🩷

💔 From Cuddly Companion to Shelter Stress, Bello’s Looking for His Way Back Home

Once a beloved house cat, Bello is now feeling very stressed in the shelter without a family of his own. He misses his people, his routine, and his cozy life filled with love. He wants to learn how to trust again, he just needs someone who will take the time to get to know him.

When this 3-year-old cat first arrived at HSHC, he was fearful of his new environment, surrounded by strange new scents and sounds. It’s taken him a while to warm up, but when I stopped by for a visit today, he showed of his affectionate side. With lots of head butts, gentle purrs, and quiet whispers, Bello started warming up to the idea of feeling loved again. It was hard to walk away from those big, sad eyes as he watched me leave.

🏡 In his previous home Bello lived happily with two dogs and interacted peacefully with children of all ages, and once he’s out of the shelter, we know this boy will blossom back into the loving, independent house cat he was always meant to be. He just needs one chance.

If you’d like to meet Bello, he’ll be waiting during our adoption hours, 12-5pm daily. To save time, apply now at hshcadoptions.com, then just come in to meet him. No appointments necessary.

❤️‍🩹 Help Us Give Ellie A Second Chance ❤️‍🩹

Found as a stray at 10 years old, we knew Ellie’s senior status would pose a challenge when she tested positive for both heart worm and Lyme disease. Given her age she faced more risks with her treatment, but Ellie wasn’t quite ready to give up the fight, and we were not willing to let her fight alone.

Thanks to our Survivor Program, we were able to transfer Ellie to our shelter to receive the best quality care we can provide, and through the generous power of your donations, we will be able to heal Ellie’s heart and give her the chance to live out her golden years in a safe and loving home.

It’s only been a few days, but this sweet little whippet has managed to steal our hearts before we could even start to heal hers. We recognize we could not save animals like Ellie without you.

Your support impacts the lives of hundreds of animals in our care, like Ellie, who rely on the Survivor Program every year. A donation, no matter the size, is life changing for these animals. Every dollar brings our pets one step closer to the happy and healthy life they deserve. 🐶 ❤

Please, if you can, donate to Ellie’s recovery and survivors like her at https://www.hamiltonhumane.com/how-to-help/survivor-program.
