Matching hoodies. Matching smiles. One very loved dog. 🩷

This is Finch, currently living his best foster life with a staff member and showing us exactly what he’s like in a home. Spoiler alert. He is an absolute joy. His foster sent us a note about life with Finch, and it says everything we wish adopters could see for themselves.

"I have fostered Finch for about 3 months now and he has been the best roommate someone could ask for. He has been nothing but a joy to have in my house. I get home from working at HSHC every day and he never fails to put a smile on my face while being the happiest and most goofy dog. He loves to cuddle and play tug. He is always down for a fun adventure even if it’s just a walk down the block or watching movies on the couch. He loves to go on car rides and hang his head out of the window. He is housebroken, crate trained, and non-destructive (although he does love to find out what’s inside a plush toy). He loves to play with my two dogs and has done fantastic meeting other dogs here! My biggest goal is to get him adopted before April as that will mark one year of him being in the shelter. "

Finch has been waiting far too long for his forever person. April marks one full year of him being in our care, and this sweet, goofy, teef-showing boy deserves a home of his own.

💔 After 542 Days, How Much Longer Will Mocha Have to Wait? 💔

Mocha is back at the shelter after her time in foster, and if we're being honest, she's not handling it well. When you walk up to her kennel, you might even wonder if a cat lives there; that's how determined she is to hide from her reality here.

She wants your love, and when you meet her, you'll realize she has so much love to give in return. She just needs someone to take one second to really look for her, to ask the HSHC staff about her, and to give her a chance to meet you without a pane of glass in the way.

Mocha is litter box trained and was very well behaved for her former foster family. She isn't asking for much; she just needs the right person to reach out their hand to her. If you are willing to love her for the rest of her life, DON'T WAIT‼️ Stop by the shelter today before 5PM and ask to meet her.

She's waited for so long for her chance. Don't make her wait another day. 🐾💕

Christina Needs a Foster or Adopter ASAP ‼️

This is Christina. She is just 9 months old. A baby, really. And she is having a very hard time in a kennel environment.

Christina gets overwhelmed here. Her anxiety ramps up fast and she tries to cope the only way she knows how. She paces, she panics, and she may unintentionally hurt herself. It breaks our hearts to watch, because this is not who she is at her core.

In calmer spaces with people, she shows her sweet side. She slows down, stays close, and will lay next to you to play with a toy. You can see her trying to feel safe and connected. She is a young pup learning how to navigate a scary world.

Christina truly needs a home. Adoption would be best for her, but a foster could still make a meaningful difference right now. She needs patience, routine, and a quiet place where she is not constantly pushed past her comfort level. A home would give her the chance to build confidence instead of staying stuck in survival mode.

This is an urgent ask from people who care deeply about her. The shelter is not where Christina can succeed long term.

We have three barn cats ready right now, and a few more on the way, who need safe, rural homes where they can live their best independent lives. These cats do not do well in the shelter and need homes now.

These aren't your every day lap cats, they're here to work! In exchange for daily food, fresh water, shelter, and basic care, they’ll keep your barn, stable, outbuilding, or warehouse rodent-free year-round.

Reed’s New Year Blues 💔

Reed spent Christmas dressed up and hopeful, waiting for his turn to go home. Christmas is supposed to be magical.

But the lights came down, the calendar turned, and Reed is still waiting.

He’s now in a foster home, and we’re so grateful. He’s thriving with other dogs, playing, wrestling, and soaking up attention, but it’s only temporary. Shelter life isn’t for him, and he’s ready to find a forever home to call his own.

Reed is very playful and would be happiest with a confident dog friend ready to run, wrestle, and play alongside him. He’s lived with cats, though they weren’t the right fit, and would do best in a home where everyone is 10 and up while he continues learning. One of the cutest things about Reed is that he always has one ear flopping over his head. It’s impossible not to smile when you see it. Those Christmas photos show a dog who was ready then and is still ready now.

Meet Jinxy: He thought he had a forever home, but at 18-years-old, he was left behind 💔 🐾

After 12 years in a quiet home with a warm bed, Jinxy spent his first night at the shelter overwhelmed and all alone. His world turned upside down, and at 18-years-old the stress of the shelter was wearing on him.

With so many unfamiliar sights, smells, and sounds, he was desperate for a second chance in a loving home... and thankfully one of our amazing fosters was able to offer him a temporary reprieve.

But that's the key word here... it's only temporary. 💔

We know it's easy to see a tiny kitten and instantly fall in love, but this senior cat has a lifetime of love and worldly wisdom to share that will make him the perfect lap cat for the right person.

Here are some of Jinxy's highlights:
👶 He's an experienced babysitter who can coexist with kiddos of any age
😻He enjoys the company of other cats in the home
✨He loves to be brushed and still has a spring in his step to play from time to time

She Thrived in a Home. The Shelter Is Breaking Her Heart 💔

Frosted Flakes has been waiting for her forever home for a long time. Not in a kennel, but in a temporary foster home, where she learned the comfort of a couch, the calm of quiet mornings, and what it feels like to belong, even if only for a little while. Now she’s back in a shelter, and it’s been hard.

Today, she spent some one-on-one time with a staff member, leaning in, nudging for belly rubs, and pressing close for comfort. Every moment reminded us how ready she is to finally have a home to call her own.

Frosted Flakes is 4 years old, housebroken, and crate trained. She loves toys, walks, and belly rubs, and she passed her cat test. If you have a dog at home, we can set up a meet and greet to make sure it feels right, but she would also be perfectly happy as your one and only. She would do best in a home where everyone is at least 14. She’s full of love and ready to share it.

She’s waited patiently. She’s done everything right. All she wants now is a home where she can finally stay. Will you be the one to give her that forever?
