Good afternoon FAH friends and family! We wanted to take a moment and introduce our sweet friend Layla as she is getting her Bordetella vaccination. It is very important for puppies and kittens to get all of their boosters to make sure they are properly protected. Layla is now all finished and did an amazing job as the appointment was filled with kisses, wags and lots of love! If your puppy or kitten is needing their vaccines make sure to give us a call!
Dogs are not color blind!
Dogs don’t see in black and white. They see a spectrum of greens, yellows, blues and purples.
This video is so cool because it shows us what a dog sees.
Counting a resting respiratory rate
Do you have a pet with a heart murmur or heart disease?
If so, it can be really important to measure their resting respiratory rate.
In this video I show where to look on the dogs’ body to watch the chest going up and down.
Each up AND down is 1 breath!
Count for a full minute or for 30 seconds (and then multiply the number by 2).
A normal resting respiratory rate is less than 30-35.
Cody’s rate here is only 10.
It is very important that you also check this when your pet is sleeping or at settled rest.
You can keep track of this on a piece of paper or on an app (I’ll include the link in the comments).
If your pets’ resting respiratory rate is consistent greater than 35 please let your vet know. This is a sign that their heart is not working well enough to keep up with the workload and fluid is beginning to build in their lungs.
If you have any questions about this, please put them in the comments.
It’s not a party til the stuffing comes out of the bed!
Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes with our personal pets?
This!
One of the perks.... take your dog to work every day!

Welcome back! Here are a few rules we need you to follow...
😁We are happy to welcome clients back into the hospital for regularly scheduled appointments.
🥰Many of our clients this week have been so grateful to be able to accompany their pets in to see their doctor and we are so happy to see you too.
🙄During this time of transition, our goal is to keep everyone safe as many of our team members remain ineligible for the vaccine at this time and are still considered high risk.
To do this we ask that you follow a few simple rules:
🌡Please only come in if you and your family are healthy.
🙋♀️We ask that only 1 pet parent accompany your pet
😷Please wear your mask properly at all times (even when you are in the exam rooms waiting).
🪑Please stay seated on the bench or designated chair.
🐈Please do not touch your pet while we are examining them.
↔️Please keep your distance from team members at all times.
🙏Thank you for your cooperation! We look forward to seeing you!

Cavaletti exercises for senior dogs
Do you have a senior dog?
Have you ever wondered what you can do to help preserve their mobility?
This is a simple but effective way to do “physical therapy” at home.
These are step overs, also known as cavaletti exercises.
The benefits of doing these exercises include:
-improving rear end awareness
-strengthening of muscles involved in limb flexion; which teaches your dog to pick up their feet
-increases range of motion in the knee joint
Give it a try and show beautiful Meeka some love in the comments💕
If you are coming to the hospital don’t forget your mask!
