We helped with another successful Zero Waste event! Put on by the City of Flagstaff for their Employee Recognition event at the Orpheum this week.
We diverted about 109.4 lbs of food waste that will be used to make our nutrient-rich soil!

New winter hours update!!!
We will be open to the public on Tuesdays (barring weather and holidays) from 9am to 4pm!
If you have a need for one of our products but cannot make it on Tuesdays, call or email us and we can set a special appointment.
For winter, we will be making large piles of our products to get ready for next year!

We are composting pumpkins this Saturday!
Bring any pumpkins by our site at 2261 N El Paseo Flagstaff RD and receive a 5 gallon bucket of compost as a thank you!
We will be accepting pumpkins between 9am and 1pm.

On Wednesday, the city of Flagstaff hosted an employee appreciation BBQ that was ZERO waste!
The city asked Restoration Soils for recommendations of compostable items to be used during the event and to help with collection and sorting.
Of course, we were very happy to help such a mindful and fun event and hope to see more zero waste events in our community.

The storms in Flagstaff are bringing welcomed rain while we are tending to our piles at our site near Picture Canyon.

Job Description - Compost Collection and Operations Manager

A half-time (20 hrs/week) position for a self-motivated individual with a passion for composting, healthy soils, and climate friendly practices. Restoration Soils is looking for candidates for a Compost Collection and Operations Manager (CCOM) to manage the following processes with minimal oversight:

• Food and organic waste pickup from residential and commercial customers (2-6 hours per week)
• On site compost, mulch, and soil sales (11 hours per week, Tues, Thursday and Saturday AM)
• Green waste and compost processing (3 hours per week)
• Sales and marketing at (Sunday Farmers Market and other events as needed)

Expanding the customer subscriber base for food and organic waste pickup would include: outreach at the Sunday Flagstaff Community Market and other events, signing up customers for pick up service; direct outreach to potential commercial and institutional customers; and promotion and other business development via social media, advertising, networking etc. either as directed by the owners or proposed by the CCOM. Consequently, applicants with social media and promotion experience are encouraged to apply.

In addition to these responsibilities the CCOM will manage food waste collection, the processing of compost, mulch, and soil products and on-site sales and loading. This work is all conducted at the Restoration Soils industrial composting facility in east Flagstaff. As such, ideal candidates will have some experience operating heavy equipment (trucks, loaders, trailers etc.) or in construction, landscaping, or equivalent fields.

Applicants with experience or interests that match up with any of the various parts of this role are encouraged to apply. On-the-job learning and training are possible for those candidates lacking experience in either business development or operations. We are happy to work with the right person who has a passion for the mission to help them develop the skills they need to succeed in the job.

Please note, the Restoration Soils industrial composting yard is a ground-based operation with limited on-site amenities.

There goes the last of our compost! For the next couple of weeks, until we get our screen back up and running, we won't have any pure compost available. We still have some garden soil, topsoil, and mulches. We'll let you know when we're back in action!
