Did you know the way you handle your animal in the field can make all the difference in how your finished mount turns out?

Here are a few quick tips to help preserve your trophy before it reaches the shop:
• Keep it cool – Heat is the biggest cause of hair slip!
• Leave extra hide – We can always trim, but we can’t add more.
• Try not to drag – It can damage the hair and cape.
• If you can’t bring it in right away, freeze it in a plastic bag to lock in freshness.
• And when in doubt — call us! We’re always happy to walk you through what to do!
We try our very best to accommodate after hours.

A little extra care in the field means a mount you’ll be proud to show off for years to come. 🦌

Friday Fun Fact 🪶
This week’s fun fact came straight from shop talk. Mandi announced she was headed out grouse hunting, and Katie asked, “What the heck is a grouse?” 🤔 Dad chimed in without missing a beat: “It’s like a mountain chicken.” 🐔⛰️

So here you have it — this week’s fun fact is all about the grouse… aka the mysterious mountain chicken! 😂

Grouse are game birds found all across North America.
✨ They blend in so well with the woods that hunters usually hear them before they see them (that famous drumming sound is a male grouse beating his wings to attract a mate).
✨ They’re a popular game bird for hunters, and yes, they’re actually pretty tasty — hence the “mountain chicken” nickname.

Fourteen years ago today, we lost a truly incredible man — Steve Favour, the heart and founder of Signature Taxidermy. Steve was a loving husband, a devoted father, and grandfather. He was avid outdoorsman who felt most at home in the mountains and out in nature.

Signature Taxidermy started with his dream and his hands, and every piece of work that left the shop carried his pride and craftsmanship. Even though he’s no longer with us, his spirit is still felt in the shop every single day.

We miss his laughter, his stories, and the way he poured his heart into his family and his work. Today, we honor his memory and the legacy he left behind. ❤️

Did you know Arizona is home to some of the largest elk in the world? 🦌 Our elk can weigh up to 700 pounds, and the bulls grow antlers that can stretch over 4 feet tall!

🦴 Bull elk shed their antlers every spring, and new ones start growing almost immediately—gaining up to an inch a day!

🍂 In the fall, their famous bugle call echoes through the forests, a sound that’s both wild and unforgettable.

Congratulations to all the hunters who have already filled their tags — what an exciting way to kick things off. 👏 We’ve been busy in the shop taking in lots of animals, and we can’t wait to see the finished mounts come to life. Arizona Mule Deer season is here:
Did you know…
🏹 Bucks can weigh up to 300 lbs.
🏹 Their antlers fork as they grow, making each rack unique.
🏹 The rut peaks in late November–December—prime time for hunters.
🏹 They’re famous for their stotting leap, a tricky move to dodge predators.

From desert scrub to high-country pines, Arizona mule deer keep hunters on their toes. Good luck this season to everyone heading out—may your sights be steady and your freezers be full! 🍂
