With only 7 days to go until Christmas, our kennel dogs decided they have a few wishes this year (besides having a forever home of course!). Our supporters have been so generous with donating things like toys and bedding throughout the year that we are all set on those, and what our pups really need the most are high quality dog treats! We go through an insane amount each year and can never have enough. So, they put together a wishlist of some treats they’d love to have. We also added a few other items we were looking for. Please consider picking a few items to send to our pups! It's selfie Sunday with Pascal and his kennel buddy Jackie! This handsome senior pittie mix, weighing around 70 pounds, was rescued from an animal control facility after being placed on the "urgent list" through no fault of his own. Pascal is known for his mellow, low-key demeanor and makes a wonderful companion. He’s obedient, sweet, and friendly with all people. Despite his gentle nature, he isn't a fan of cats and would do best as the only pet in your home. He’s well-behaved, knows the sit command, and enjoys going for relaxing car rides as your faithful co-pilot. While this lovable guy is friendly, he prefers not to be hugged, but still enjoys plenty of other forms of attention. 🎉🎂 Happy Birthday, Violet! 🎂🎉

Our volunteers and staff took time to celebrate Violet’s 7th birthday yesterday with a nice walk, birthday toys, and a special treat. Sadly she is spending another birthday in our kennels. 😢 Violet was saved in the nick of time from a Texas shelter and was adopted, but returned to our care a few years back. This pretty girl loves games of fetch, splashing in pools, and is fantastic on walks and runs. Violet is looking for a forever home with experienced owners who can provide a calm, structured environment.

Even though she’s happy to have gifts and special treats, there’s something Violet wants more than anything- she wishes for a loving home. It's selfie Sunday with Rosco and his kennel buddy Lynn! Meet Rosco Russell, the adorable 2-3-year-old low-rider pit mix who weighs in at a sturdy 55 lbs. Rosco is all about love, laughter, and belly rubs! This goofy, friendly boy is eagerly searching for his forever home after a tough transition. Rosco was with his family since puppyhood but they had to surrender him when their family dynamics changed and they no longer had time to care for him. Now, Rosco misses the comfort of living in a home and is ready to find a new family that will give him the love and attention he deserves. Rosco is not only house-trained but also knows his basic commands! He’s a smart boy who can sit and stay on command. What makes Rosco even more special? Happy National Mutt Day!

We are a *bit* biased, but we think we have the best mutts around at the Eleventh Hour kennel! We have mutts of all ages, sizes, energy levels, personalities— all lovable and perfect in their own way. From puppies all the way to seniors, small to large, couch potatoes to adventure buds, whatever you’re looking for in a dog, we probably have a pretty good match.

Meet our December Dog of the Month…Cooper! ❄️☃️

Meet Cooper, a 1 - 2 year old pointer/lab mix who is about 42 lbs. Poor Cooper was found abandoned and skinny on the side of the road, with a scar on his neck from an embedded collar. 🥺

While it appears Cooper hasn't had the best start to his life, you would never know it from his appreciative nature and friendly disposition! He is good with other dogs. Cooper is learning to walk on a leash and how to sit and wait (rather than jump) for attention. He is a quick learner and is also is amazing with kids!

Cooper loves people and is ready to follow you anywhere or run after a kicked soccer ball. Despite his past, he is still a happy boy, exuding an infectious energy that brightens the day. ☀️🌈

We hope you had a joy-filled Thanksgiving yesterday, and that you got to spend it with loved ones (human and canine).

Drew here is showing off how important things like treats are. Yes, we use lots and lots of treats at the kennel to teach dogs like Drew how sit, shake, lay down, wait, and more— all things that hopefully make the kennel dogs more adoptable.

This Black Friday, we are sharing our Chewy wishlist. You’ll notice we have lots of treats on it. That’s because we go through an obscene amount of treats on a daily basis. The dogs tend to prefer smaller, chewy treats to the larger, hard treats. Treats are our number one wishlist item this holiday season. If you’re looking to help out the kennel dogs, they’d really appreciate some stinky treats. A lot of them are on sale today because of Black Friday (make sure you add coupon codes when you check out!).

We also added some DNA test kits. Yes, it’s nice to know what exact breeds make up each dog, but more importantly, it’s so much fun to guess what they are!

Elton arrived to NJ this past weekend and donned his best Thanksgiving tie and looked his most handsome all day long at the adoption event🦃. This cutie was hoping to find a home before the holidays but instead will be spending his first Thanksgiving in NJ in our kennels. He was the only new dog this weekend that didn’t find either an adopter or foster. 😢 A volunteer who spent time with Elton says- “I personally have zero idea how he could spend all day at an adoption event going overlooked when I can personally attest to the fact that he gives amazing hugs, has the softest fur to pet, loves to snuggle, and entertain both you and himself with toys. Plus he was a great boy in the car, so adventures anyone?”

A literal life saving story of friendship 🐶🐾

Yesterday, Brodi, a small, scared brown dog, went into foster care. Within a few hours, his fear got the better of him, and he bolted out of the house. His escape was terrifying- he had no idea where he was, and the area is dangerously close to busy highways, Route 80 and Route 46. With traffic speeding by and Brodi frightened and disoriented, the situation was dire. Despite two sightings, no one could catch him; he was too skittish and darted away each time.

Today, a volunteer decided to try something creative and brought Paris, a happy-go-lucky black dog who had been Brodi’s neighbor in the kennel for a week. Paris is full of energy—almost too much for a nervous dog like Brodi—but the hope was that her familiar scent and presence might draw him out. The volunteer took Paris to the woods where Brodi had last been seen and started playing loudly and enthusiastically with her, laughing and calling out in a way that might catch Brodi’s attention. Miraculously, it worked! Brodi came running out of the woods! He happily approached Paris, his tail wagging for the first time in hours, and the volunteer was able to grab his collar. Even if the collar hadn’t been secured, it was clear Brodi had no intention of leaving Paris’s side!

This adorable and unexpected friendship may have saved Brodi’s life. 🥹 Now safe, both dogs are still waiting for their forever homes—and who knows? Maybe they’ll find one together. Paris truly was the hero of the day, and this story of connection and friendship is one for the books!

It's selfie Sunday with Mack and his kennel buddy Laura! Meet Mack, an adorable senior brindle Bulldog who was saved just in time by 11th Hour Rescue from a high-kill shelter. And are we ever glad we did! Mack has matured into a calm and loving gentleman who still enjoys the simple pleasures in life. He’s incredibly affectionate, loves to be near his people, and is a quiet companion when left alone. Though Mack is calmer now, he still loves a good game of fetch with his favorite tennis balls and enjoys walks. He's well-behaved on a leash when out and about and finds pure joy in car rides, rolling around playfully in the backseat. Mack is housebroken and crate trained. This sweet boy can get a little overstimulated when excited, so a home with dog-savvy adults and older children would be ideal. He would thrive as the only pet in the home, but does well walking past other dogs in the neighborhood. Rocky spent some time on this snowy night hanging out upstairs at our kennel with one of his volunteer friends. Rocky is your perfect mix of brains and goofiness wrapped in a big, affectionate, lap-loving package! At 3 years old and 60 lbs, Rocky still thinks he's a puppy, which just adds to his charm. He's not only fun-loving but also incredibly smart, with a repertoire of commands like "spin around," “play dead,” and "roll over," as well as the classics like "sit," "down," "stay," "eat," and "speak." This clever guy even has his own alert system for bathroom breaks, giving you a polite whine when it's time to head outside. Rocky is all about making friends, whether it's at the park or at the vet. When it comes to his home turf, he prefers to have a proper introduction before rolling out the welcome mat as he takes his job as a home protector seriously. Rocky thrives on companionship and would love to have a dog buddy to boost his confidence. He’s made several doggie friends at the kennel and loves to hang with them! This goofy boy has also lived with older kids (ages 6 and 12) and did splendidly with them. At night, he snoozes quietly in his crate, but during the day, he's all about fetch and ball games. Though Rocky had a bit of a Houdini streak with his previous owner, this smart pup is now looking for a family that'll appreciate his adventurous spirit while keeping him safe and entertained.
