This month's special breed is the Labrador Retriever. 🐾

• Origin - Labrador Retrievers originated in Newfoundland, where they were bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and catching fish. 🐟
• Swimming - Labs are natural swimmers, with their webbed feet and otter-like tails providing excellent propulsion in the water. They love water activities and are often seen joyfully splashing around in lakes and rivers. 🌊
• Soft mouths - Known for their soft mouths, Labs can carry items gently without causing damage, making them great hunting companions. 🦆
• Intelligence - Labs are highly trainable and intelligent, consistently ranking as one of the top breeds for obedience and working roles. They thrive on mental stimulation and can learn new commands quickly, often in just a few repetitions! 🧠

This month's Pet of the Month is Retta Clark 🐾

She is a German Shorthair Pointer and she is 2.5 years old.
She has been seeing Dr. Johnson for 2 months. If you stopped by our clinic recently you may have seen her behind the desk where she enjoyed greeting everyone who came in. Retta stayed with us at The Depot for 5 weeks while she healed from pelvic fractures. In her spare time, she loves chasing birds and dragon flies.
(her owners think she thinks they're birds too)

Unfortunately our pets might not share your enthusiasm. It’s not just about the silly costumes—there are several safety concerns to keep in mind. To keep your pet safe, keep them indoors and away from the Halloween chaos. Even the most friendly pets can become stressed and act unpredictably. Ensure your pet has proper identification, including a microchip and ID tags.

Each month we will highlight one unique breed of cat or dog and share a few fun facts about them! 🐾
This month's special breed is the Golden Retriever.
Golden Retrievers originated in the Scottish Highlands, where they were originally bred for hunting. Golden Retrievers are strong swimmers with webbed feet that help them move through the water like flippers. They love playing in water and are often seen playing water games like Frisbee or catch. Golden Retrievers have soft mouths due to selective breeding. This allows them to safely carry injured waterfowl back to hunters without causing damage. Golden Retrievers are considered to be very intelligent, ranking fourth in a test of 138 breeds. They can learn new commands in as few as five repetitions. Have you ever wondered where the saying “Cats have 9 lives” came from? 🐈‍⬛🪽
Cats love to climb and often times find themselves stuck in high places that they have to get down from. Their impressive ‘righting reflex’ enables them to twist their bodies around while falling, to land squarely on all four feet. They also have great flexibility in their bones and ligaments, which helps them to sustain minimal injury from impacts. Cats have a large body surface area compared with their weight, which also helps reduce the force of their landing.
