WARNING! BLOOD! WARNING! BLOOD! An aural hematoma (also known as an ear hematoma) is a blood-filled pocket that develops between the layers of the ears. It can be caused due to: · Severe ear scratching or head shaking or head shaking, due to an ear infecton, ear mites, allergies, or an object stuck in the ear · Trauma to the ear Surgery is typically recommended to drain the hematoma and then suture the skin down to the middle cartilage during healing. By doing this, blood can no longer accumulate. If left untreated this condition is painful and results in a deformed ear. #auralhematoma #vetmed #veterinarymedicine #ears
