The Queens County Farm Museum is a 47-acre working farm dating back to 1697. The site includes a landmark farmhouse, glass greenhouse, and restored barns which provide us with a glimpse into our agrarian past. Join historian J. Keith Doherty at Queens Farm for a captivating talk that uncovers a hidden chapter of our local history!

During the era of Gradual Emancipation (1799-1827), as slavery slowly came to an end, free Black men in the Bronx defied immense challenges to establish thriving farms—a remarkable achievement that has been largely erased from history. These men, many of whom had endured enslavement in their youth, rose to become successful landowners and businessmen, carving out a path to financial independence and empowerment.
