Its unsettling to see one of my alpacas on the other side of the fence. One that she is not supposed to be on.
We think the bear scared her.

We had a wee visitor in the wee hours this morning! Good sized black bear.

We finally are getting eggs! We started with 25 chicks in April and are down to 9 hens and 1 rooster. Stray dogs, coyotes and skunks are hard on a free range flock.

Enjoying coffee and the view from our back patio with the new garden and roses.

This awful and evil plant has showed up in our pasture!! Its called BuffaloBur Nightshade. Poisonus and obnoxious. BOO!! So we will be digging these nasty things out by hand...gloved hands. Always something to do on the farm. Sheesh!!

6:30 am..little dog starts barking like a crazy dog...Chuck jumps out of bed and almost steps on the big fat vole the kitty brought us, sees a coyote by the chicken coop and my marksman hubby made for 1 less coyote! Too bad e lost another rooster. The poor hens are huddled in the coop.

Quite the scene watching 4 alpacas chase a coyote all over their pasture. They are great watch animals!

This was last year. The grasshoppers were terrible this year and we only had 6 pumpkins this time. Hopfully next year we will have a terrific pumpkin patch so kiddos can come pick a pumpkin!

I did not need an adrenaline rush!! But I got one!! Watching our new alpacas escape and go running down the driveway….towards the ROAD!!! Thankfully my handsome husband is part cowboy and he wrangled them back using our trusty steed the ATV! Whew! All safe! Never a dull moment around here.

It's a beautiful evening on Humdinger Farm! We had a thunderstorm earlier and possibly more tonight. God's beauty is awesome!

Welcome Harold the new rooster!

Spring is in the air! Tulips and Irises are coming up. The trees are budding and the hens are laying eggs like crazy! 16 yesterday!

02/07/2016

6 chickens lost. Boo!

02/06/2016

Never a dull moment! 2 marauding dogs showed up and killed 3 chickens this morning. We caught them and put them in the garage to await animal control and they broke a $200 window that we were going to put in to the attic this summer. I think the rooster is hurt and 9 other chickens are unaccounted for. Grrrrr! And this was all before coffee!

01/29/2016

Crazy windy here today but sunny and pushing 60 degrees! The hens don't seem to mind because they are laying eggs like good girls now! 7 today!

Everyone is tucked in for this cold and chilly night. So excited the the Farmer Man installed his new automatic chicken door opener/closer!!

10/31/2015

Quite the accomplishment for our first year, we butchered 30 chickens and a couple of trouble maker turkeys. Chuck made some ingenious killing cones out of new highway cones and did the deed of slitting throats. I dunked em in hot water and tossed them in the plucking machine we borrowed. I even chopped off their feet. Then the Farmer-Man finished up with the gross job of gutting them. bleh! I bagged and tagged and into the freezer they went!

I hear a chicken ruckus this morning at 6;30 and come flying out of bed and grab my pistol...yes call my Annie Oakly. Thank goodness it was only 2 young roosters having an argument. I was ready to take on varmits and wee beasties even before coffee on a Monday morning! Then I threw a load of laundry in only to have my machine go wiggidy whack. I have completely dismantled my washing machine, ordered the new part, watched the youtube video and hopefully will have said machine up and running by Friday. The repairman has been called just in case and is on standby. What a way to start Monday!

Ancient apple trees being trimmed today. They already look better and happier. The tree guy confirmed they are over 100 years old. What a blessing from the original owners and FAther God who has sustained them all these years.

10/14/2015

The last of the tomatoes are picked. Only a few pumpkins left. Several friends have come to pick the pumpkin patch. They turkeys are getting fat and sassy….their days are numbered! We are feeling very thankful this fall.

09/30/2015

Another one bites the dust! That's a 5 gal bucket just for reference. Dats a big stinker!

09/28/2015

Varmits!!! ARGH!! Another 12 chickens have been killed. We have lost half our meat chickens die to skunks and raccoons. Chuck has exterminated another HUGE skunk this morning. We thought we had them all... BOO!

Good morning! Welcome to Humdinger Farm. I finally made a page to share all the craziness we call our new life. Its official, we have been here a YEAR!! So many things have been improved but still so much to do. I have boxes that need to be unpacked and my haphazard office needs a major overhaul. Little by little we are making improvements. For those who have blessed us with visits early on….Thank you! Thank you for the encouragement and letting us know you see progress. I need the cheering section!
