The Kae-9 Story

Mikaela's Bio I have been grooming for 10 years. Starting my career I went through an apprenticeship with a groomer while I was attending NKU as an entrepreneur. I went away from the NKU setting because I had decided the main thing I wanted to do was groom dogs. I attended and graduated Nash Academy of Animal Arts in 2012 to learn the art of this trade. I was taught there as well and a little in eastern Ky, about how to teach basic obedience training, as well as the arts on how to get through to an aggressive dog. (Which comes in handy from time to time) After school, I worked here and there at shops but none really felt like a good match for me. I don't like using kennels for my clients, and I really like to spend my time on my work, making sure that every animal is calm, clean and happy. My first venture was Kae's pretty pups in 2012 and that has grown and matured in 2014 into Kae-9 By design mobile grooming, which has now in 2016 been modified to be in a salon setting. I continue with my education through the grooming organizations; national dog groomers association of america, intellectual groomers association, international professional groomers, these organizations offer testing and furthering education. I am an advanced certified professional groomer (Acpg) through IPG working on my masters at the moment. I compete in grooming competitions every year, to learn and be judged by our industry leaders, I have won third place in salon freestyle in 2014 and second place in rescue roundup in 2017. I hope to one day have an opportunity to compete for Groom team USA and teach others my passion as well. I hope to add to my clientele in earning trust and friendship with you and your dog(s).

From Mikaela about our logo dog Dexter: In 2012 I completed trade school and went to work at a salon that was in the same space as my salon is. We did various grooming for Boone County Animal Shelter and we did clean ups for dogs that needed to be spiffed up to help their chances at getting adopted. In came dexter who was very uppidity and excited. He was in a new place, with new people. He didn't like anyone touching his paws, that were red and raw from running, he didn't have black paw padding in some places. I easily connected with him, he let me work on him and no one else. He liked being scratched behind the ears. I didn't have a dog at the time, until dexter walked into that shop. We have a bond that is unbreakable. Today, he went back to the salon where we first met. Although it looks VERY different, I could tell he knew it was where we had met. 4 years later and we own that special place. Rightfully he is my mascot and through everything that has happened in our 4 years so far, I feel so amazing that dexter and I have that special place and special moment to look back at. And trust me he was in there today (when we first opened) like he was the boss. Kae-9 by Design llc grooming studio is not just a grooming studio, it holds a very special place in my heart. Whenever I see him on our window it instantly takes me back to when we first met. Everyone that comes into our salon instantly knows there is something different about it, we have a sense of love and warmth that floods the whole space and I truly believe that Dexter is the reason why.
