Pet Pals MT was started by Alice and Richard Luchs in the Summer of 2013 with the purpose of serving the pet community in Missoula and surrounding areas. We started our business with one goal in mind, to make your pets feel like they never left home. We strive to make your pets as comfortable as possible in our home environment. We are located a few miles outside of Missoula just past Lolo. We hav

e a large home that sits on 5 beautiful acres perfect for dogs to run and play. We also have a fishing access and campground at the end of our road where we will take dogs to play in the river. At Pet Pals MT, your pets aren't just clients, they're family!

To our valued clients, we have a client who is interested in rehoming her dog Griffin. He is a very sweet boy. Please read below and contact Beth if you think you might be a good fit for him. thanks!!!
Griffin-Havanese Griffin is an 11 year-old Havanese. His birthday is Oct 31, 2013. He is roughly 10-11 lbs. We are looking for a new home for him as we are busy and out of the house for long periods of time so Griffin can get somewhat lonely. He needs very minimal exercise and loves blueberries and olives. His ideal day would be taking a short walk and then lying on the couch next to his owner for hours on end. He likes to sleep in his soft kennel at night. He’s used to other dogs (big and small), cats and many people. He prefers 1 person/owner with a slower paced lifestyle. He is a very happy little guy and still knows how to have some fun when he plays. He is up to date with vaccinations and we can provide any paperwork needed to show vaccination dates. Attention Clients: Baby Update!

We are scheduled to be induced Thursday June 1st. We will be limiting our numbers to 10 dogs from the 1st-5th. We still have a few spots left but we will not make any exceptions this time. We will only be allowing very easy dogs for those days as well. No one with major health issues, anxiety, or any behavioral concerns. We will also be very limited on drop off and pick up times for those days. We appreciate everyone for understanding and can’t wait to introduce our dog world to our little lady!

From the Owner:

Blaze and Finn are looking for their forever home! Siblings that must stay together.

Working Line Aussies, 18 months old, spayed and neutered, microchipped, healthy. They are athletic and responsive, willing to please. Friendly and well socialized.

I’m sad to place them, but a professional change requires a new home for them. They are really good dogs. Feel free to contact me questions.

These are two of the sweetest, most generous people we have ever known. We watched their dog, Digsby for boarding and daycare since he was just a little pup. It’s hard to fathom something so tragic could happen to two people as amazing as Matt and Jen. If you read the article then you know Matt passed away but Jen sustained critical injuries and unfortunately Matt was the holder of their health insurance and upon his passing they lost it. So Jen has a long, expensive road ahead of her and any amount will help. If you could find it in your heart to help please go to the bottom of the article to see how you can.

It was going to be a time to celebrate and perhaps a time to heal, too, after losing a parent. It is hard to comprehend the ensuing tragedy.

Attention Clients!

As many of you know we are expecting our second kiddo this year! Due date June 8th. We have made a couple decisions based off of this which are as follows:

1. We will not be accepting any new clients from May 23rd - August 1st.

2. We will be taking a limited number of dogs from June 1st - June 15th.

3. For the entire month of June we will not be taking dogs with extreme energy, anxiety or severe health issues.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your understanding.

Attention Clients!!!

If your dog(s) are excessively itching PLEASE check them for lice before sending them to us or taking them to be around other dogs. In the past couple weeks we have had two dogs arrive with lice. Fortunately we are paranoid and caught it within a couple hours of the dogs being here however we now have a whole process to go through to ensure the well being of the other dogs staying with us. We understand this time of year can be hard on a dogs skin and coat and more often than not their scratching is probably due to dry skin and dandruff but we are asking all our clients to check their dog(s) just in case before they send them to us. We really appreciate the vigilance on your end and will keep it up on ours. Thank you!!!

P.S. Here is a picture of dog lice nits/eggs. This is what you will most likely see although you may also find live lice which will actually be moving. If you see this or live lice quarantine your dog(s) from others. Bathe them with flea/tick shampoo once a week for 4 weeks in order to kill all the lice. The shampoo will not kill the eggs which is why it needs to be done consecutively for 4 weeks to get each round of hatching. Thoroughly wash all beds, towels, blankets, toys, and areas where the dog(s) may have laid, rolled, scratched or rubbed on. Luckily dog lice is very slow moving and does not jump.

Attention Clients!

Beginning September 1, 2021 we will be changing our operating hours to 7am - 7pm. We will still offer in-town pick ups and drop offs between the hours of 8am-6pm.
Our son is starting school and therefore our schedules need to change slightly to accommodate his drop off times and our evening family time. We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone and we will continue to send out reminders as we get closer to September.

Attention clients!

Richard and I will be out of town from October 25th (Monday)- October 28th (Thursday).

Our good friend and fellow dog trainer, Maggie Thiesen, will be staying at our home with our pups and a select few boarders. If you have plans to go out of town between those dates and would like to book one of the limited spots please contact us as soon as possible. We will continue to remind clients as we get closer to the dates.

Whenever we do a meet and greet with a new client we always ask “how do they do with kids?” Sometimes people say their dog is scared of kids, sometimes they say they love them but most of the time people say their dog(s) haven’t really been around many kids so they aren’t sure. I tell every client that no matter their dogs disposition (as long as they aren’t aggressive) that Wally is the perfect kid for their dogs introduction to small humans. Its no surprise many dogs are nervous of children because most kids don’t understand the best ways to act around dogs especially scared ones. Wally is calm, patient but even better than that he knows how to completely ignore a dog and therefore keep any pressure off of them. We expect a lot from our dogs and when they are around kids we expect them to put up with a lot but not everyone realizes it’s the responsibility of the parents and the children to ensure their dog(s) understands they are safe from a child’s uncertain ways like poking, hitting, pulling or just being generally loud and crazy.

This video shows a sweet pup, Waziya, who hasn’t been around kids too much. She was giving us all the signs she wanted to come say hi to Wally but she couldn’t bring herself to approach him. So Wally got down on the floor so he wasn’t so intimidating, put his hand out in an offer to come say hi and then he patiently waited while she slowly but surely made her approach. She still isn’t 💯 sure about this tiny human while he’s standing and moving around but she is steadily building up her confidence.

Teach your kids how to slow down, be calm and to show a little patience. ❤️
