These six month old kittens and these itty bitty kittens have a lot in common. All sweet, all fluffy, all adorable- and they all have the same mama!

Cats can have multiple litters in a year. This particular mama had a litter of seven in August followed by a litter of four earlier this month. She is now with AZCare and will be spayed along with her kittens when they are old enough.

Please spay and neuter!
These particular kitties were fortunate enough to land with a family that cared for them until they had maxed out their resources in trying to place them all in homes, at which point they were diligent in finding a rescue. Not all are so lucky. Spay and neuter saves lives!

The six month old kittens are being spayed today and will be adoptable soon.

Look at this glow up!

Some cat breeds, like Siamese, can change color fairly dramatically as they mature. This process is called acromelanism. The gene responsible for the shift is heat sensitive. Cooler parts of the body, like the ears and tail, tend to deepen more. Cats in cooler climates can be darker than they would be where it's warm!

Jibby is a great example. His creamy coat matured to a gorgeous deep brown. A DNA test done by his adopter revealed that he has Maine C**n, Himalayan, and Norwegian Forest Cat in the blend. Himalayans are a breed where Acromelanism occurs. Jibby was adopted from us in 2021 before moving to cooler climes. We're thrilled to see him doing so well!

Who's that at the habitat?

It's Tazz!

If you've been to the Queen Creek Petsmart habitat lately, you've likely heard this social boy calling for friends! Tazz loves to be with people. He's affectionate, playful, and is a total lap kitty.

Tazz is about 10 months old. He's fixed, felv/fiv tested negative, dewormed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

We get alerts for lost pets, sometimes. When we can, we want to post them in the hopes that we can reunite some pets with their families.

If you're in any of these areas, please keep an eye out, and please share!

Foster Fail (noun)

1. An animal that is meant to be in the care of a foster family temporarily but stays permanently. (He just won't leave, and you don't want him to)

2. A failure to adopt out an animal you promised your spouse/roommate/parents would not stay long. (Liar, liar, pants on fire)

Typically occurs when the person who is supposed to say 'no' has no restraint, either.

Thank you, PetSmart , for the great toys!

Our partnership with Petsmart is amazing in so many ways. The habitat we are allowed to utilize in their store gives our deserving kitties exposure to potential adopters, they provide a coupon booklet to help our new pet parents start out right, and we recently received a donation of toys.

Big thank you from Soren, Amaya, and their foster uncle, Marty!

Where do our kittens and cats come to rescue from?

Right now we have:

*Three found in a cardboard box by a hiking trail

*Two left in a carrier outside a clinic

*One left in a bathroom at a park

*One left in a hotel room, severely malnourished

And many more that came through networking with other animal rescuers, like Ghost (pictured- available soon).

These stories of neglect and abandonment might make us think people are so cruel, but we like to focus on the caring hiker who collected the abandoned cats and paid to have the sickest see the vet. The hotel employee who found and nourished the starving kitten. All of these stories have hope due to good people!

We can't help these kitties without our community. Thank you for liking, commenting, sharing, donating, and caring!

Meet Mako!

Mako is understandably confused about the many twists her little life has taken. She was found in a public park bathroom. Some good people took her home and cared for her for a few months while they tried to find owners. They were unable to find her a new place and though they loved her, they could not keep her . She came into AZCare and started to settle into her foster home, playing with random objects and cuddling in any available lap, but needed to take a turn in the habitat to see if she could find her person.
Are you her person? Do you know someone who needs a lap cat?
Mako's ideal family would allow her to be an only pet. She wants all the love! She is inquisitive and affectionate. She wants a place to plop and purr.
If you would like to meet Mako, please visit azcarerescue.org and fill out a meet and greet request!

If she's cute enough, we'll let her out, right?

At AZCare we are proud to be largely cage free. Our animals are in foster homes where they are a part of the family. They benefit from socializing with people and animals, and our fosters get a good idea of their personality to share with potential adopters.
There are a few exceptions.
1. An initial quarantine period. When new kitties come in, we keep them separate from other animals in the household while we treat for worms, check for mites and fleas, and look for symptoms of any infectious disease.
2. Illness. Sick animals are quarantined to prevent disease spread. Often they will have a room to themselves, but where this isn't possible, we try to make their habitats clean, roomy, and comfortable.
3. The Petsmart habitat. Our partnership with Petsmart gives our kitties a chance to be seen by potential adopters. We rotate the kitties to ensure that no one lingers there, and every kitty gets seen. Our excellent habitat volunteers pamper them during their stay.

We are pleased to report that Nina was granted a clean bill of health and is now in a loving adoptive home. Happy trails, little jailbird!

We love our fosters!

Heather has been with the rescue since 2018.
She has fostered more than 80 cats and kittens in her time with the rescue, and has helped to manage her neighborhood feral cat population through TNR.
One of her favorite fosters was Bezzuby. Bezzuby came in pregnant and toothless. Without her teeth, she couldn't sever her kitten's umbilical cords as cats typically do. Heather and our rescue president were critical kitty midwives, and Bezzuby and her kittens were all healthy and well.
Outside of rescue, Heather is a teacher and she makes gorgeous quilts!
Having good fosters is essential to our program. Heather will be leaving us soon to move closer to family, and we will miss her!
If you'd like to help fill Heather's very big shoes, or even just the left one, please apply to come and foster for us.
All our kitties are in people's homes. The rescue provides vetting and supplies, you provide love and care and get to be a part of the adoption process, finding that perfect fit.
Kitten season approaches!

Adoption Update!!

This adorable kitty was adopted from us in October of 2020.

Angela (Roo) is doing very well. She now has little sisters Tinker Bell and Pixy Dust. Big sister Tigger, too. All get along well. She just got her shots and passed the vet check 😺

We love adoption updates and are always happy to get them.

We have another very special update coming in a few days, so stay tuned!!

New year, new life!

With help of some feral cat advocates in our community,we were able to get these five kittens trapped and beought indoors. Their feral mother was spayed and released.

These five came in dirty, undernourished, scared, and had eye infections. Now they are clean, healthy, and well on their way to being social, happy indoor cats.

Let the transformation begin! Happy 2025!

Is your kitty comfortable in their crate?

Leaving a crate out, lined with a cozy blanket, is a great way to acclimate your kitty to a carrier. When they are comfortable there, it makes transportation easier!

These four love to sleep piled up in their crate. They'll be up for adoption very soon!
