In this video Cheyenne is hand feeding Avila her breakfast. This is one of the ways to have your kids involved with your dog. Cheyenne loves to work with the dogs, but at any point she doesn’t want to help, she gets to go away. I want the training to be fun for Cheyenne and the dogs; that’s very important!
Cheyenne is still difficult for the dogs to understand. In this video you will notice Cheyenne is using hand signals. This is much easier for Avila to understand (communication bridge) and we are also working on Cheyenne being relevant. :)
All interaction between Cheyenne and the dogs is monitored by an adult. Babies, toddlers, and children don’t always understand how to interact with animals and it is our responsibility to teach the dogs and children how to interact appropriately.
My others dogs are not as eager to train and do not “listen” to Cheyenne. Once she’s older that is something we can work on, if Cheyenne is still interested. I am not mad at Rue and Axel for not engaging with Cheyenne in training as that would not be fair to them.
Letting your baby/child climb/pull/tug on your dog is never okay. Even if your dog looks comfortable or tolerant of this behavior this is how accidents happen. Learn how dogs communicate and their tales. It’s unfortunate, but this is how a lot of dogs end up rehomed, because the growl or bite came out of nowhere. There’s always signs, they were just missed.

So much cuteness!
What I’m doing with Rue behind the scenes:
Long line with recall “come”
E-Collar tone conditioning
E-Collar stim conditioning with basic commands
Avila and I went to Farmers to work on her reactivity! Doing so much better! 🥰
Avila was exposed to many things starting around 11 weeks old. However, she still had reactivity come about. Genetics play a huge part in a dogs behavior! If you have a reactive dog that you worked with, exposed, and feel like you have failed, don’t. Just keep working with your dog and learn their thresholds. I know it can feel defeating at times, but keep on pushing.

Padme is starting to get the hang of it! Y’all I’m doing 3, 15 minute sessions a day. Training doesn’t need to be long and sometimes it’s harder on the dog if it’s long (they can get overwhelmed and shut down). Consistency is key!

Jameson is almost done with his obedience training. He’s made so much progress in the last 2-3 weeks. His owners have been consistent and set boundaries for him. Doing this let’s a dog know what to expect everyday and they’ll gladly follow!
