Planning for the Future: Why Pet Insurance Is Important ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Just like us, our pets can experience unexpected health issues as they age. Chronic conditions, injuries, and even cancer can arise, and these can come with significant financial burdens.

Pet insurance can help:

๐Ÿพ Cover unexpected costs: From surgeries and medications to treatments for chronic illnesses, pet insurance can help offset the financial burden of unexpected vet bills.
๐Ÿพ Provide peace of mind: Knowing you have a safety net can help you make the best decisions for your pet's health without worrying about the cost.
๐Ÿพ Early detection: Many plans offer wellness benefits that can help with preventative care, such as routine checkups and screenings, leading to early detection of health issues.

Uh Oh! Is Your Dog Suffering from Gastroenteritis? ๐Ÿถ

Gastroenteritis, often called "stomach flu," is a common ailment in dogs, causing upset tummies.

Here are some signs to watch for:
๐Ÿพ Diarrhea: This is the most common symptom, ranging from loose stools to severe, watery diarrhea.
๐Ÿพ Vomiting: Dogs may vomit frequently, often containing food or bile.
๐Ÿพ Lethargy: Your dog may seem tired, listless, and uninterested in playing.
๐Ÿพ Loss of appetite: They may not be interested in eating or drinking.
๐Ÿพ Dehydration: Look for signs like sunken eyes, dry gums, and decreased skin elasticity.

If you suspect your dog has gastroenteritis:
โœ… Restrict food and water: For a short period, withhold food and offer small amounts of water frequently.
โœ… Contact Us: can advise on the best course of action, which may include medications, fluids, and dietary changes.

โ„๏ธ Winter Wellness for Your Pets โ„๏ธ

As the temperatures drop, it's important to take extra precautions to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable.

โ„๏ธ Protect their paws: Salt and ice melt can irritate their paws. Wipe them down after walks and consider booties for extra protection.
โ„๏ธ Bundle up (if needed): Short-haired breeds may need a sweater or coat during cold weather.
โ„๏ธ Provide a warm spot: Ensure they have a cozy and draft-free place to rest.
โ„๏ธ Watch for signs of cold stress: Shivering, lethargy, lifting a paw in the air and whining could indicate your pet is too cold.

P.S. Remember to limit outdoor time during extreme cold weather.

New Puppy Alert! ๐Ÿถ

If you recently welcomed a new furry friend to your family, scheduling their initial veterinary appointments as soon as possible is important.

Puppies have unique needs during their first few months of life, and regular checkups can help ensure their healthy development.

Here are some key reasons to schedule an appointment:

๐Ÿพ Vaccinations: Puppies need a series of vaccinations to build their immune system and protect against preventable diseases.
๐Ÿพ Parasite Prevention: Regular parasite prevention treatments are crucial to keep your puppy healthy.
๐Ÿพ Wellness Checkups: These comprehensive exams help identify and address any potential health issues early on.

Contact us today to schedule your puppy's first appointment.

New Cat Parent Guide: Keeping Your Kitten Healthy ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿพ

Vaccinations: We have a Feline Vaccine Info Sheet for all your questions! Kittens need boosters, but don't worry, most visits after their initial series are every 6 months.

Pet Insurance: Consider insurance during kittenhood for the most coverage! Different companies offer wellness plans (vaccines & exams) or accident/emergency coverage. Popular choices include ASPCA, PetPlan, Embrace, Trupanion & Nationwide.

Stool Sample: Drop off a fresh sample ASAP (no appointment needed)! Parasites are common and can even spread to humans.

Feline Health Testing: We recommend testing for Feline Leukemia/AIDS/Bartonella at your first visit and again at 6 months. These can impact your kitten's health and potentially spread to other cats.

Food: Feed an AAFCO-approved kitten food โ€“ meal-fed or left out for grazing.

Preventative Care: Heartworm/Flea & Tick: We recommend Revolution Plus for ALL kittens over 8 weeks (indoor or outdoor) to prevent these serious issues.

Spaying/Neutering: We recommend spaying/neutering your kitten between 5-6 months. This reduces health risks & helps control pet overpopulation.

Microchipping: This is quick, painless, and crucial if your kitten ever gets lost. Ask about it during your spay/neuter appointment!
