Speaking of free flighted birds - specifically parrots - many assume that birds of prey as the biggest danger. Fact of the matter is that raptors are one danger but not the only not even necessarily the biggest threat. San Diego county is a biodiversity hotspot, and a true blessing for an animal lover who freaks out seeing quail, eagles, hawks and coyotes on a daily basis. But there are so many other dangers that come to mind when training free flying parrots, and the human factor is a big one. Just like for wild birds, the environment we have created is dangerous for our trained ones. From people wanting to steal or use as target practice to toxins manufactured and natural, there are many dangers a free flying parrot can access now. Improper training methods may not show up right away but can reveal themselves as the parrot matures. Each species has different flight style a different way of interacting with the world around it.
