63 years ago Laika became the first animal to orbit the Earth. She died in space; alone, in agony, and terrified.

She was a stray who was plucked from the streets of Moscow, selected for her small size and bright coat (that would show up nicely on film.)

She passed away five hours after she was thrust into orbit (although for over 40 years the truth was covered up and officials insisted she was alive for days after take-off.)

She died due to overheating. The satellite wasn’t sufficiently insulated from the sun’s rays, and she essentially cooked to death.

The Soviets admitted that they never planned for her to make a return trip, and knew she would perish in the experiment.

“Laika, the first animal to be launched into orbit, died from overheating and panic in the tiny spacecraft – all alone and in severe pain.”

“The more time passes, the more I’m sorry about it. We shouldn’t have done it.”

Remember Laika and the millions of other animals needlessly used in experiments worldwide each year ❤️

Rip is a beautiful 1 year old German Shepherd that came to AFM K9 for help with his hyper reactivity and hyper aggression issues. So far, Rip has already made huge progress! Creating trust with your dog can be a process within an undesignated timeframe. Playing CONSTRUCTIVELY with your dog helps keep them balanced emotionally. You, the handler, become the leader your dog needs.

The knowledge I want to give my clients is not just the knowledge of how to manage dog ownership, but also how to embrace it. As I get older, I realize the time with my dogs has been one of the most helpful things when facing hurdles in my psychology. When we wake up with great dogs, we see the true inner image of our soul. We may look in the mirror, but only to see the image on the surface. Life isn’t about what we say or do…it’s about patterns and consistency. There is nothing that exhibits this trait more than a great dog by your side. When we can communicate with our dogs, there is an indescribable light that shines on our darkness. I want people to experience that. That’s what I want people to know. There is simply nothing like it.

What I do changes lives. I’m thankful for that opportunity everyday. There is a healing power in the presence of great dogs, and it’s something we can’t live without. It’s something worth the effort.

Echo the Dutchie Pup begins her journey as a Multi Purpose Dog. Her training regiment is completely customized to the Dutch Shepherd breed, and of course to the owner’s request. She was quickly accepted into my own pack of Dutch Shepherds. This is usually a clear sign that the Alpha has determined her to be an asset to the pack. We are already seeing the signs that this dog is full of genetic fulfillment. So…Puppy Training begins now!

Understanding the practical knowledge of waterfowl hunting always helps the handler of a hunting dog prepare for the challenges appropriately. This young dog, Ryder (Silver Lab) will be training with me to develop his advanced retriever skills in preparation for his first ever hunting season in the Fall.
