Our Story

Founded in 2018, United States Veterans Service Dogs is a not-for-profit organization created to serve the needs of veterans with disabilities through providing high trained assistance dogs and ongoing support at no cost to the recipients.

USVSD recognized the need for a service dog organization who would provide a variety of service dogs to match the wide array of disabilities that our veterans have. We provide PTSD service dogs for veterans who struggle with the debilitating effects of PTSD; mobility support dogs to help those who need extra assistance getting around or accomplishing day-to-day tasks; medical alert dogs to alert to a medical episode before it happens; hearing alert dogs who respond and alert their handler to sounds and noses they can't hear; and facility dogs who work in healthcare settings to improve the mental and physical health of the patients they work with.

All of our services are provided at no cost to the veterans. Our funding comes from generous contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service clubs.

PTSD service dogs can provide crowd control tasks, perform Deep Pressure Therapy and Light Pressure Therapy, interrupt anxious behaviors, e.g., scratching, leg shaking, finger tapping, and biting or picking at skin. They can also interrupt night terrors and guide their handler to an exit while in a building.
