For many owners, teaching their dog to remain neutral around other dogs can feel like an impossible task. It often leads to frustration, avoidance of parks, or carefully timed walks to avoid busy hours.
While every dog is different, the approach doesn’t have to be complicated: correct the behaviors you don’t want and reward the ones you do. Keep it simple—don’t overthink it!
In this video, Ernie is very aware of the passing dogs. He stares for a moment but stays calm and doesn’t escalate. Instead of coaxing him to disengage, I let him make the choice. When he decides to re-engage with me on his own, I make sure to reward and acknowledge that decision.
Allowing dogs to make their own choices, instead of always telling them what to do, leads to stronger, longer-lasting results—and dogs genuinely enjoy the process so much more ✨🧡

The reality of being a dog trainer is that really… there are no days off. 🤷♀️
While it’s extremely important to take time for yourself, your personal dogs, family, etc., you still have to make sure your boarding dogs & training dogs are getting their needs met. Let’s admit it, work-life balance can be hard.
For us, off days usually mean exercise days (for us & them). We get to mentally recharge, while still making sure they get the essential exercise they need. 🙏
