This is what rescue looks like. This is what happens when you take a few minutes, and stop for that animal you see on the road. I’ll never understand, nor do I want to, how people just drive on by.

PSA: Frightful cobwebs 🕸

Fake cobwebs are fun decorations to get in the Halloween spirit, but they can pose a real fright for wildlife. You can make Halloween safer for wildlife by skipping the fake cobwebs this year.

Birds and bugs can become ensnared in the web decorations, especially the webs adorning bushes or trees. Many types of birds can get caught in the tricky webbing, from migrating songbirds to raptors, like owls. Wildlife rehabilitation centers inevitably see a rise in intakes during the month of October for this reason.

Birds often cannot break free themselves once stuck, and this can cut off circulation to legs, damage their wings, or, the stress alone of being tangled up for hours can sometimes be fatal.

To those who celebrate Halloween, you don’t have to completely miss out on the ~spooky~ vibe indoors though! Have fun putting the fake webs up inside your house and making the most of the haunted holiday for your kids and party celebrations. (Just keep an eye out for household pets trying to eat the cobwebs, as this can be harmful to them!)
