Topic: 6 reasons cats hate water
1. Fear or discomfort- cats will understandably have a fear of water if they're drenched in it without a proper introduction. 1 negative experience can impact every interaction with water a cat has
2. Vulnerability- Cat's fur weighs more when wet, which could prohibit their movements. They also don't have as much traction when they're wet, it is suggested to put a towel in the bottom of the tub.
3. Grooming preferences- cats spend as much as 50% of their day grooming themselves and most cat shampoos strip away the natural oils of their fur. In their eyes, you're creating more work for them
4. Drying time- It can take a while for a Cat's fur to dry, especially if they are scared of the hair dryer. During this time they may feel cold, which is extremely unpleasant for cats
5. Chemicals- most water & shampoo have chemicals that your cat doesn't like the smell of, like chlorine or fluoride.
6. Scientific reasons- there could likely be biological reasons cat despise water.
Although most cats don't like water, there are plenty of cats who love water! Their reaction all depends on the experiences they've had.
