What is considered high value rewards in dog training?
A high value reward is a treat, or toy that is more exciting to your dog. ( Every dog has different likes ,loves, and dislikes. You need to find what is something your dog finds as a high value reward. )
Treats may be as follows:
•Small bits of steak
•small bits of chicken
• small chunks of cooked bacon
• small bits of hot dog
• small shreds of cold cut sandwich meat
• small chunks of cheese.
Keep in mind that these are small pieces of meat or cheese,
In the beginning you will give out a lot of these for positive Cue response.
These differ from the run of the mill bag treats or kibble that you also need to carry and use for " well done" rewards.
Objects:
Toys can also be used as a high value reward!
These toys will be your dogs most favorite toys. May it be a favorite plushie or ball.
These toys are not to be given out during free time or left out for your dog at all times.
High value toys should be kept up and away from your dog and brought out and given for a very " well done" reward.
Toys that are left out all the time will lose their value, your dog will become bored or uninterested in the toys over time.
It is recommended to keep toys up until you want to play , teach or stimulate your dog's brain.
