Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center

Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center Providing routine veterinary care and health certificates for pets of military families. FBVC also offers sick call appointments as availability allows.
(18)

Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center (FBVC) is professionally staffed by Army Veterinary Corps personnel and civilian government employees. The Army Veterinary Corps member's primary mission is providing complete veterinary care for military working dogs and other government owned animals, including military working equines and working dogs from other government agencies. At FBVC, we understand that you

r pet is an important member of your family. All pets living on Fort Belvoir must be registered with the Veterinary Center upon arrival. The registration forms can be found on our page or completed in person. Please contact the Fort Belvoir Housing Office for information regarding pet limits and breed restrictions for on-post housing. We offer routine veterinary care for pets of military families including wellness exams, heartworm tests, microchips, vaccinations, intestinal parasite testing, a**l gland expression, and nail trims. We carry a variety of heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives and prescription medications for our patients. However, due to limited staffing many patients are best served through a full service civilian veterinary clinic when they are not feeling well. We strongly recommend you have a relationship with a civilian veterinarian in case appointments are unavailable and in case of emergency. FBVC also offers Health Certificates for pets traveling to Europe, the UK, Japan, Korea, or to any US state or territory. Many countries have specific requirements that must be done months in advance for importing pets. Please visit the USDA Aphis Pet Travel website for additional information. For availability of services at Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center, please contact us at (571) 515-8297 or by email at [email protected]. Please allow 72 hours for prescription refill requests. Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Friday 0800-1600
Wednesday 0930-1600
Thursday 0800-1300
Saturday/Sunday CLOSED

We are closed in observance of all Federal Holidays, training holidays, and the last business day of every month for inventory.

Please be aware of changes to gate and visitor policies! Follow Fort Belvoir for the most up to date information.

In order to ensure the safety and security of the people who live and work on Fort Belvoir, the Garrison Commander has directed that starting immediately, access to Fort Belvoir is limited to individuals with valid DoD ID Cards and their minor dependents, or those holding existing sponsorship privileges. This change is indefinite and will remain in effect until ordered otherwise by the Garrison Commander.

All visitors that don’t meet the above criteria will need to meet their Fort Belvoir sponsor at the Visitor Control Center for access to the installation. To learn about visitor access, go to https://home.army.mil/belvoir/about/Garrison/DES/physical-security/expedited-visitor-access-service

No food delivery, taxis, or taxi-like services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) will be allowed on Fort Belvoir at this time. All food deliveries will need to occur outside of the gate.

To facilitate this change to the policy, Tulley Gate will now be open 24 hours starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. Lieber Gate will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All sponsors will need to meet their visitors or pick up food deliveries in the parking lot of the Tulley Gate Visitor Control Center starting tomorrow morning.

The safety of our residents and employees is Fort Belvoir’s top priority. We understand that this is a major change and truly appreciate your understanding and patience at this time. Any changes to this policy will be announced through Fort Belvoir’s social media platforms.

Planning international travel with your pet? Make sure to check the requirements to get your pet back home in the U.S. safely!

Starting on August 1, all dogs entering the U.S. (including those that left the U.S. and are returning, and regardless of the country they are coming from) must be:
• healthy upon arrival
• at least 6 months of age
• microchipped
• accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt and required vaccination and veterinary documents.

Additional requirements may apply depending on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States.

Use CDC’s Q&A tool (the CDC “DogBot”) to determine what rules apply to your dog: https://bit.ly/2rww2bq

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month! Infected blacklegged ticks can spread Lyme Disease when they bite dogs or people.

To best protect your pet, keep them on a quality tick repellent year round and regularly check them for ticks after time outside. If you live in a high risk area like Virginia, there is also a vaccine available for dogs. Your veterinarian can test your pet for Lyme Disease at their annual wellness visit!

This map shows Lyme Disease prevalence in dogs in the United States. Visit the Companion Animal Parasite Council Website (capcvet.org) for more information on Lyme Disease in Dogs and additional map data. For information on Lyme Disease in Humans, visit the CDC website (cdc.gov).

‼️TULLEY GATE CLOSED‼️

Be sure to check the gate hours before your appointments! Tulley gate (closest to FBVC) will be closed starting May 4. Please plan your travel time accordingly to enter through an open gate!

ATTENTION FORT BELVOIR!! GATE CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Tulley Gate and the Tulley Visitor Control Center will be closed for construction starting May 4 for approximately 3-4 weeks. During that time, Pence Gate will be open 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors requiring a Pass to enter Fort Belvoir must enter through the Lieber Gate Visitor Control Center.

This change does not affect any other gate. Lieber and Farrar Gates will remain open 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week, and Kingman Gate will remain open from 6-9 a.m. and for exit only from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During construction, the Directorate of Public Works will add word markings and medians to the roadway, and repaint bike lines and road lanes, with the ultimate goal of making it easier to enter and exit Tulley Gate.

We appreciate your patience during this time. We will post an announcement when Tulley Gate is scheduled to reopen. When Tulley Gate reopens, Pence Gate will close. There are no current plans to keep Pence Gate open permanently.

🐾 Today is K-9 Veterans Day! 🐾

In the year 1942, the U.S. Army approved a new training program called the "War Dog Program," also known as the "K-9 Corps." This event officially marked the first time dogs were considered part of the U.S. Armed Forces.

At Fort Belvoir Veterinary Center, we are reminded daily of the Selfless Service and Unwavering Loyalty our Military Working Dogs (MWDs) execute during their time in Service.

Our Team is grateful for the opportunity to aid both MWDs and other Government Owned Working Dogs throughout their careers and more importantly at their final medical checks before Retirement.

The Retirement process becomes possible through the joint effort between the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, the Working Dog Handlers, and their Unit/Agency.

Thank you to those who have served or are serving today!
