Today we had our AAHA recertification evaluation, passed, and were reaccredited! What does that mean? From AAHA “Since 1933, AAHA’s ultimate goal is to help veterinary professionals provide exceptional care to pets and pet parents. Our efforts are to make your veterinarian’s life easier while elevating the care available to your pet. Because accreditation is voluntary, each hospital that chooses the AAHA path truly believes in the high standards upheld by our organization. You can rest assured that AAHA-accredited veterinary practices and team members are driven to be the best and care about your pet’s health and well-being and have submitted their hospital and team through a rigorous testing and evaluation process to retain this certification.” We are proud of the work our team does and the level of care we provide, and are glad to consider ourselves among the elite veterinary clinics who open themselves up to outside critique in order to ensure they are operating at industry high standards.

We have a brand new endoscope! Our team has been receiving training over the last two days, and today we’re able to successfully remove some foreign material from our volunteer patient who has a history of dietary indiscretion. Endoscope is less invasive than abdominal surgery and can often allow us to reduce hospitalization and recovery time. If your dog or cat eats something inappropriate, and you catch it early enough, we may suggest this as the appropriate treatment and are excited to offer this option more now that we have state of the art equipment to do so! Bonus picture at the end of our amazing dog volunteer Wesley recovering from anesthesia and one with his mom (our practice manager Jenny). We will share a video of what the team was able to find and remove his stomach in our stories!

Today we held our summer baking challenge with a theme of wedding cupcakes! Our team always really shows up to compete, and we had a wide variety of entries which were all delicious and impressively decorated! Dr. Hoke, our resident baking expert laid out the rules, everyone in hospital voted for their favorites, and our top three bakers were Mckynna and Abi two of our wonderful CSRs, and Joshua one of our amazing technicians.

The Alexander Mountain Wildfire is directly impacting our area including some of our team. Please be aware of the evolving situation and avoid areas where people and their animals are trying to evacuate and our amazing first responders are working. You can sign up for alerts through nocoalert.org and find evacuation sites for animals and people updated frequently. If you are close to the fire, have an exit plan and an emergency kit packed which includes essentials for you and your pets, and stay safe. Our HBOT can help with smoke inhalation cases for your pets, and we are just a call away to help with emergencies. 970-484-8080.

Stay safe and evacuate if it is recommended for your area!

UPDATED 7/30/24 at 5:37pm
______________________________

Being a day in from when the Alexander Mountain fire started, we wanted to provide an update on how NOCO Humane is involved in pet evacuation efforts and overall support.

As of right now, NOCO Humane is temporarily caring for 99 animals who evacuated from their homes and could not stay with their owners: 30 dogs, 24 cats, 40 barnyard animals, four reptiles, and one guinea pig. If you were evacuated and need temporary housing for your pet (no larger than a goat), our Larimer Campus is able to care for them. If after hours, once you’re here call APC at 970-226-3647 ext. 7 and an on-call officer will assist your pet with settling into the shelter.

If you are seeking housing for an animal larger than a goat, please go to Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley.

If you were able to stay with your pet after being evacuated and are in need of food/supplies, please feel free to stop by our Larimer Campus in Loveland and we will provide you with an emergency supply.

NOCO Humane's Safety and Emergency Manager has been assisting the Red Cross with their two evacuation centers (one in Estes Park and the other in Loveland) to ensure they are equipped to accommodate pets. Additionally, our Animal Protection & Control Officers are in direct contact with the Larimer County Sherriff's Office and supporting as needed.

For the latest updates on evacuation efforts and fire activity, please visit nocoalert.org or dial 2-1-1.

We very much appreciate everyone's support and reaching out to offer supplies and volunteer help. At this time, we have the supplies and volunteers we need to address this emergency, but will certainly let you know if this changes.

If you are still interested in supporting NOCO Humane and the animals displaced from their homes, monetary donations go a very long way and can be made here: https://register.nocohumane.org/give/234539/ #!/donation/checkout.

Thank you all for your continued support and please be safe.

This week's features another one of our intern DVMs, Dr. Selvey! Dr. Selvey graduated from CSU in 2024, but moved to Colorado in 2015 to attend graduate school at CU. Since then, she developed an enthusiasm for rock climbing, in which she found great physical challenges and a stellar community. You might also see her snowboarding or fiercely competing in pub trivia. Zelda is her socially awkward rescue dog who loves to run fast and swim at Horsetooth Reservoir. Dr. Selvey is thrilled to be working in the ER because the chaotic nature of this type of medicine promises that every day will be different, and she will have access to doctors who are excited to share their experiences with her.

This week's features one of our newest intern doctors, Dr. Kelsey Franusich! Dr. Franusich grew up in the small mountain town of Westcliffe, CO. She graduated from Colorado State University with her Bachelor's in Biology, a Professional Science Master's, and recently her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She was lucky enough to have spent time during three separate externships at Fort Collins Emergency and PETS Emergency. She loved what these hospitals had to offer and decided to accept an internship position in their ER Academy. She loves emergency medicine and how every day presents new challenges. Pan and Pax are her two crazy dogs that keep her VERY busy. Her and her husband enjoy traveling, paddle boarding with the dogs, axe throwing, roller blading, hunting, and basically anything that involves being outdoors.

Today we (along with our sister hostpital ) celebrated our interns completing a challenging year of learning and welcomed our new class of interns into the madness that is emergency medicine with a veterinary field day at Boyd Lake. We grilled, we paddle boarded, we played lawn games, and we enjoyed some time as a team outside of the insanity that sometimes goes on in clinic. Please help us welcome the 2024-2025 class to the team and thank the 2023-2024 class for all they’ve taught us all over the last year!

We are a proud safe space for every member of our community, including our LGBTQIA+ team members, clients, family, and friends. The love of a pet is unconditional, and our commitment to serve all pet care givers with compassion and respect is as well.

Tonight a bunch of our team went out to to support two of our awesome team members and their bands. Cat, our marketing coordinator is in an awesome band who opened for Dr. Pilley’s amazing band . We can’t believe what an amazing show they put on! Check them both out and support local music (and vet med workers chasing their passions outside of the clinic).

Veterinary appreciation day is a great opportunity to say “thanks” to the wonderful veterinary professionals who keep your fur babies happy and healthy through their selfless and endless dedication. We are so grateful for each person on our team who gives their all every time they are on shift. Please take a moment to tell any member of our staff how they positively impacted your lives with their work in the comments and to tell your friends in vet med how grateful you are for their care.

06/15/2024

On this beautiful, hot Saturday afternoon, we would like to remind you about hot asphalt awareness! With asphalt temperature at 125°, skin breakdown can begin to occur on a dog’s pads. That’s only 77° air temperature! If you can’t hold the back of your hand on the asphalt for longer than 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Ways to mitigate this issue is to walk your pets earlier in the day or later in the evening when the temperature is cooler, or purchasing shoes for your dog to protect their paws from burning.

We are open 24 hours and always happy to help!

Last week, we had the opportunity to welcome Dr. Amanda Payne to our staff meeting to teach our employees some dog handling safety tips. Dr. Payne works at Animal Friends Alliance and specializes in canine behavior. She offers affordable behavior consultations for issues such as basic training, impulse control, housemate aggression, fearful behavior, and a variety of other issues. We loved having her (and her sweet companion Salem) and learned a lot of very valuable information that will help keep our patients and staff safe. 🐕🏥

The future sure is looking bright for these amazing doctors! As we reach the end of the year for our four brilliant ER interns, they do case presentations for other doctors and interns all over the country. This year’s class (pictured here with our intern coordinator Dr. Pilley) is with us for another month, except for Dr. Pegarsch who is leaving us a bit early to join another rotating internship program within our company, and we can’t speak enough to how much we’ve loved having them all on our team for the last year and sharing them with our sister hospital Pets Emergency Hospital.

This meet our team Tuesday is another new employee, Maddie!
Maddie has lived in several places throughout her life, but calls Albany, GA home! Maddie is currently in her second year at CSU pursing a degree in Zoology, but hopes to expand her knowledge and get into vet school and work in the zoo setting as a veterinarian. When she isn't working, she enjoys volunteering at the Northern Colorado Wildlife Center and All Aboard Animal Rescue or hanging out with her two dogs, Milo and We**ie, and her cat, Heidi. Welcome to the team, Maddie!

We saw the sweetest little baby! She is only 8 days old and had a laceration on her right arm! Because she’s so small and young, sedation would have been very hard. Thanks to our team, we placed 3 staples and she took it like a champ! Thanks for trusting us with your sweet little babe!

Today, we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Let’s come together today to celebrate the heroic sacrifices our military members made, which brought us freedom.
As most places are closed, our clinic remains open 24/7.
We wish you a happy and safe Memorial Day🇺🇸💙❤️ 🇺🇸

We’re so glad we were able to help Cookie and her family! Our hyperbaric chamber works wonders for soft tissue injuries, we’re open 24/7/365, and we stock antivenin and blood to help with these scary cases. It’s snake bite season in Colorado, so be aware of your surroundings and know where you’ll take your pet if they run into unwanted wildlife friends!

Our hospital is so grateful for our relationship with which allows us to positively impact even more pets in our community. AFA’s mission to provide comprehensive care to animals and their people aligns perfectly with our commitment to being available to pets and their people 24/7/365. We were excited to attend their annual gala tonight and honored to be recognized with the “Above and Beyond” business partner award.

Coming to bless everyone’s timeline with Miss Siydney, the happiest golden! We wish her luck during her upcoming surgery! Thank you for trusting us with the care of your girl!

Today is world veterinary day, and the last week has been veterinary CSR week, so we’ve been having a lot of fun with our spring spirit week. This year’s themes included dress like your favorite coworker, dress like a fantasy character, dress like your favorite meme, dress like your favorite Taylor Swift era, and more. We celebrated with food, raffle prizes, a scavenger hunt, mad libs, and a shout out board, but the bottom line is that we are so grateful for every doctor and CSR who keep our hospital open and running. We have an amazing team here at FCVEH, we work hard, we play hard, and every member of our team is important and valued.

4/20 is basically a state holiday in Colorado, and we want to encourage you and your furry friends to celebrate smartly and safely. With the higher concentrations and more and more tempting options for edibles on the market here, pets getting sick from getting into ma*****na is also on the rise. Ma*****na, like most other human medications is metabolized differently by pets, and edibles often contain additional toxins like chocolate and macadamia nuts. There is zero judgement from our team if your pet gets into your ma*****na, just be prepared to tell us what kind and how much they likely consumed, and we are happy to help them through what can be a very bad high. Keep your ma*****na in air tight containers out of the reach of your pets at all times, and seek treatment for them if they show any signs of ma*****na toxicity. *****natoxicityinpets

Isn’t this the cutest little four month old potato of an English bulldog you’ve ever seen? He unfortunately ate a grape, and even more unfortunately sometimes one is enough in these little guys to cause kidney insult or injury, which his labs are showing. Dante has been spending some time with us on fluids while we try to get his values back to normal. He is a lover, and a ball of energy even when he’s not feeling great, so enjoy these adorable pics of him and one of our awesome recruiters Andie, (along with some outtakes), and join us as we wish him a speedy and full recovery so he can go home to his family soon!

It’s national pet day and pets are at the root of everything we do here at FCVEH! It is our honor to care for your pets every day in hospital, and our staff like all of you are driven by our love for our own fur babies. Our team has dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, horses and birds among our pets, but here are a few pics of them with some of those perfect creatures that keep us all going.
