!!! Can we talk about this? A lot of unwanted behaviors are your dog being a dog. In R+ training we focus on learning the purpose of a behavior. Then teach our dogs what we need from them and allow them outlets to be a dog in our human world.

Bear is still looking for his forever home! I will drive to you to continue his training, which is paid for, each week!

This message if for our incredible network of supporters, fosters and volunteers in Colorado.

I need your help.

Bear came to our rescue at 4 months old and was a typical dog. Happy, playful. He was then adopted to a family that was absolutely the worst kind for him, and he was returned back to us at 8 months. I won’t get into detail around the trauma he must have faced, we are only focusing on the future.

Since Bear has been back with us, a huge chunk of time has been spent trying rehabilitate. He is finally at a place where he has the skills to be put in an adopter or foster home, but his home needs to be VERY specific. Here’s where our network comes in, I’m asking for your help to find his place.

Please read this entire message and think through your network of friends, friends of friends and family that might be able to help. Bear has graduated from training and must
have a place to go by this Friday, Dec 23rd. Requirements are listed below and I’m happy to talk to anyone that might be a fit. This is DIRE, not only am I refusing to ever sit with this dog in a vet office and EU, he’s not a candidate. I could never.

Here’s what Bear needs.
- A home with a human that is willing to spend 20-30 minutes 2x a day to continue building the skills we’ve taught.
- A home that is not in a bustling city, more of a farm or place with property and space. Too much stimuli in the form of cars and dogs increases his anxiety. He is supposed to walk and practice his leash skills, we just need it in a place with less distractions.
- Any person that has a passion for hunting or any sort of job where a dog could be a partner and assist, Bear would be perfect. He is a Doberman/Lab and thrives on having a job and retrieving.
- A dedicated space in the home that’s his safe space. He needs to have this space to retreat so he does not feel like he needs to pick his own safe space and regress back to any guarding tendencies he formally had. Note-he has not shown any of these tendencies since training and meds.
- A person to continue his daily medication and meet with our trainer once a week for an hour. The rescue will continue to pay for both of these things and the trainer will travel to Bear’s home.
- Bear can be in a home with another dog as long as the guidelines from the trainer are followed. He actually loves other dogs. He’s also amazing in doggy daycare and boarding.

So much personal time has been spent by myself and the trainer making sure we do right by this sweet boy, we cannot stress enough how important it is for his next person to listen to our suggestions in integrating him into a home. This case has kept me up at night, it is one of the hardest parts of rescue to make sure we are making the right decisions around the time and money we spend on our dogs. This dog is worth it.
