Play days are the best days ❤️
I’m pretty sure Sophie was playing hide-n-seal with me at the end. Silly girl!
Sometimes (if time allows), when hyper pups come in for a groom, I like to let them play with Bonsai for a good 30 minutes before we start the groom. Sends them home sleepy and starts the groom off on a good note 😊
Bath time with Riley girl ❤️
She did so good with her whole groom! She has come a long way since her first bath, so proud of this sweet girl!
Blossom still doesn’t love the idea of having a brother (after all she was the only fur child for 10 years 🤪) but when they got groomed together, she did enjoy that Bonsai was tall enough for her to hide under during blow drying.
Bonsai took his job as protector serious and wouldn’t allow the dryer to go bear Blossom 😂
Oliver is a perfect example of a double coated pup that is shedding their undercoat.
The brown fur that you see is his topcoat.
The white fur that you see come out with the comb is his undercoat.
(Do not use just a comb to get your pups undercoat out. A comb is used to see if there are any knots or dead hair that is still willing to come out, after you have properly brushed your pup)
It is very important to never buzz your double coated pups.
What is the purpose of your dogs topcoat and undercoat?
The topcoat protects your pup from the elements. It is your pups sunblock, bug spray, and raincoat all in one.
The undercoat works both as a filter and insulation.
Think of the undercoat as the filters in your home. It is important to clean them at least once a month, just as it is important to clean your pup at least once a month. Cleaning your pups undercoat requires both a bath and a brush out. Doing one without the other is like replacing your home filters with a less dirty filter but not a clean one.
Now think of your pups undercoat as your homes insulation. The insulation in your home helps keep the cold air in during the hotter months and the warm air in during the cooler months.
Many people believe that buzzing their double coated pups will help cool them down but really it can cause them to over heat. Without their undercoat they have a harder time regulating their body temperature and without their top coat they are fully exposed to the suns heat, not to mention it’s damaging rays.
So what can you do to help keep your pup cool?
Properly brush out any dead undercoat, keep your pup hydrated, and bring your pup into a cooler area when it is hot outside.
Other ways to help cool down your pup are giving them cold treats and letting them play in a kiddie pool or sprinklers 😊
How I feel trying to catch up on posting photos of all my beautiful clients 😂
Never can quite seem to get there 🤪
And the winner is….
Thank you all for entering the contest and sharing photos of your beautiful, four legged family members!
Congratulations Brittany Maxwell! I will message you to schedule your pups appointment 😊
Bonsai is almost 13 weeks old and he already does such a good job handling his grooming sessions with mama ❤️
When you start their grooming young, they typically react positively to it 🥰
Sophie was unbothered by the blow dryer. Her coat type will always require regular grooms and blow drying if a fluffed out look is desired. So being introduced to it as such a young age is so helpful to her!
Brushing your dogs teeth at least once a week is so important for their health. Once or twice a day is best, just like us humans, but even just occasional brushing is helpful.
Once tarter builds up, it becomes almost like a cement covering your dogs teeth. You never want to allow a groomer to scrape the tarter build up off. To properly remove tarter build up you need to take your pup to the vet. They will put them under anesthesia and have special tools that get it off, not only on the part that is visible but also under the gum line. They will then polish the teeth to help prevent tarter build up recurring. And depending on the severity they could prescribe antibiotics for the pup to take after their teeth cleaning.
That is just something a groomer is not capable of properly doing.
Some dogs love to get their teeth brushed, some hate it, and some don’t care either way. So even if you can’t get your dog to let you do a full brushing, anything is better than nothing.
As you can see, Bonsai uses a rounded tooth brush because he mainly just chews the toothpaste off of it. Blossom, however, allows me to thoroughly brush all of her teeth. Unfortunately I didnt learn the significance of regular brushing for pups till blossom was much older. So she has had to have two teeth pulled and we continue to fight off tarter build up. Thankfully I now know proper care for dogs teeth and Blossoms teeth are much healthier than previously.
Don’t want to fight your pup to brush their teeth? No worries, a groomer can do it for you. Sometimes you don’t even need to set a full appointment. Most groomers allow owners to make appointments just for teeth brushing 😊 quick in and out and your pups teeth will thank you!
The things Blossom has to put up with 😂
I noticed Lola starting to fall asleep while I was massaging her head during her conditioning. It was so sweet. I wanted to capture it on video but of course she woke up during me wrestling around in my pockets to get my phone 😂
My favorite moments during my work days are when my client and I are waiting for their parents to pick them up. They get to sit and relax and I get to love on them 🥰
I’m sure my neighbors are tired of hearing my baby voice 😂
Can’t stop. Won’t stop.
Three A+ clients yesterday!
Gracie, Lainey, and Bodhi are all so calm and sweet.
I wanted to keep all three of these precious babies. So well behaved and so loving.
Lainey, the beautiful red head, was always near by and always curious as to what I was doing. She would stand on her hind legs to get a better look at what was going on. She also loved to sit in front of the fan and let her hair blow from the wind. It was her first professional groom and she did amazing. She had no issues with anything I did.
All three enjoyed the pup hammock and I swear every pup that uses it almost falls asleep in it 😂
Gracie is super shy and reminds me so much of my Blossom baby. She has such a soft, beautiful black coat! She was the only one that actually wanted treats…well if you don’t count me and my love of chocolate 🤪
Bodhi boy was chill as could be and just slept during his breaks, while his sisters were getting groomed. His leg hair is almost that of a puppy, soft and fuzzy. Made me realize my scissors are getting pretty dull…time to upgrade and get me a new pair of thinning shears 😜
Before
A good deshedding wash and brush out can do wonders.
After is in the comments ❤️
Break time means time to play!
Ash is definitely my most vocal client when off the table lol
Titan came in after his sister Karma. He also got a deshedding bath and brush out. He knows he is beautiful and struts around to show off his beauty.
I thought he wanted me to hold his paw but he pulled it away like “no lady I want to get down now. I’m beautiful and need to show it off” 😂
Karma came in for a deshedding bath and brush out. She was super sweet.
She is a German shepherd/Akita mix and oh my goodness isn’t this mix just SO beautiful 😍
She had the characteristics of a German Shepard but the hair of an Akita. Her hair was gorgeous!
