I have come to learn this doesn’t only apply to horses. It applies to people and dogs too. Especially the young ones as we raise them up to become productive individuals. Think about it…..

“Parents, let your daughters grow up to be horse girls, because they will learn quickly and repeatedly that life isn’t fair, that hard work is often trumped by Lady Luck, and that every defeat, no matter how terrible, is temporary. Let your daughters grow up in the barn. Let them learn that buckets need filling and stalls need cleaning, even when it’s raining, even when it’s frozen, even when they have a different idea for how the day should go.

Teach them to drive trucks and trailers and ATVs. Teach them to change tires and wrap legs and give shots. And let them leave a spur mark, or a bit rub, or a bandage bow, and let them deal with the shame of causing pain to an animal they love.

I am never early for anything. But…..I was today. Then drew up late!! Spent some “mane maintenance “ time with Sister. Time well spent. We needed a little spa time to get the locks in good shape!

“Horses are so expensive.”
I agree, they cost me a lot everyday.

Horses cost you your selfishness.
Having horses means everyday you are alive you must consider someone’s needs before your own, multiple times a day. Even when you’re away from them arrangements must be made, this builds character and gives us self worth.

Horses cost you your ego.
Right when you think you have it figured out, you will undoubtedly be presented with a humbling experience either in the arena or out. They will force you to reach out for help when your expertise is maxed out. If you are wise, you will realize life is like this too. Maybe we should reach out for help more frequently and we would get further.

Horses cost you your laziness.
You will never progress with an equine partner by leaving it turned out, just as you will never progress by staying checked out. Do the work and you will get somewhere.

Horses cost you your heart.
They never fail to find a way to touch us deep within even (and especially) when we are feeling cold to the ways of the world. There’s something special about getting to interact with a being that becomes softer when we soften. We should learn to respond to one another similarly.

Yes, horses are so expensive. But everything they’ve ever cost me has also made me 👏🏻

Ranch horses are tough. Hours and hours, days and days, spent getting drug all over the country. Packing a saddle and bridle for the entire day of riding through brush, rocks, cactus and yucca. They will be walking quietly through cattle and suddenly stepped off of cinched tight front and back and asked to run through the rocks,cactus, yucca while dodging badger holes to rope and doctor a critter Standing tied in the trailer is their break. So when you contact us about buying a ranch horse and you ask if they haul good and can you trail ride on them please forgive us for being short. Real ranch horses see more country in their first three years than most “advertised ranch horses” see in their entire life span. Most real ranch horses not only haul good with other horses but they will also haul good with your dog. A baby calf. A couple yearling steers. They also know when water is offered you drink. They know to rest when their cinch gets loosened and not stand at the trailer and paw a hole to China. They know not to expend energy nickering and dancing around for the first hour of the day. These are only a few of the reasons a real ranch horse costs big money. They are tough They have a strong sense of self preservation They have learned to take care of themselves in rough country. They can take a hard day and another behind it if need be. That’s why when someone asks……… will he make a trail horse we shake our head. Yes. He would love the opportunity to take care of you on a trail. He has earned that life of leisure. Will he make a barrel horse? Will he make a rope horse? I don’t know. Can you? Cause if you can. He can. So when you go and purchase a young horse that cut his teeth in the arena. That had his first set of shoes slapped on him as a baby 2 year old. That his outside miles were made in the company of another horse always. That his roping experience videos were shot heading and healing an old slow roping ste
