🐾 November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month! 🐾
At Animal Hospital of Fort Lauderdale, we’re dedicated to keeping our furry friends as healthy as possible, which is why we’re spotlighting pet cancer awareness this month. Early detection is key, and we’re excited to offer a new diagnostic tool that can help identify cancer in pets at an early stage: the Nu.Q Cancer Screening Test by Idexx.
The Nu.Q test is a non-invasive blood test specifically designed to detect early signs of cancer in dogs. It measures specific biomarkers associated with cancer, helping veterinarians identify potential issues before symptoms even appear. This is a game-changer because, just like in humans, the earlier cancer is detected, the better the chances for successful treatment. 🩺❤️
Did you know:
• Cancer is the leading cause of death in senior pets: Cancer affects nearly half of pets over 10 years old, and one in four dogs will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Early detection can lead to more effective treatment and better outcomes.
• Symptoms may not appear until late stages: Many cancers can develop silently in pets, meaning visible symptoms often don’t appear until the disease has progressed. With early detection tests like the Nu.Q, veterinarians can identify cancerous markers before these visible signs arise.
• Certain breeds are at higher risk: Golden Retrievers, Boxers, and German Shepherds are among the breeds with a higher incidence of cancer. However, cancer can affect any pet regardless of breed, age, or size, which is why screening is important for all dogs, especially as they age.
• Early detection leads to more options for care: When cancer is detected early, pet owners and veterinarians can consider a range of treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or lifestyle changes. This proactive approach can improve quality of life and extend lifespan.
We’re so proud to offer the Nu. Q test to our clients as part of our commitment to pet wellness. Contact us to learn more or schedule a screening for your dog. Every day matters when it comes to cancer, and together. we can make a difference. 🐶💙
