Over the weekend Logan had the opportunity to compete in a livestock trial at Doubling Gap Ranch, LLC. Logan and Cruz (the dog pictured) brought home a few first places! We are super excited for Logan and Cruz. Congratulations! 🎉
Cruz originally came from David Henry’s (pictured below with Logan) program at Fieldstone Stock Dogs. We cannot say enough good things about David and his passion for these dogs and this work. He works hard every day to provide top quality training for his Border Collies, and anyone he is mentoring through his program. A few of his dogs have come through our kennel and we have been impressed with every one of them and their prior training by David. If you have any interest in learning to work with stock dogs, we highly recommend you reach out to David Henry!

Your weekly oil tips and tricks 💜
Today we’re covering Lavender again! This oil is one of our favorites.
A few weeks back we talked about its calming effects for a dog’s temperament. Today we’ll go over everything topically that lavender can help with.
Properly diluted, lavender can help with hot spots, dry or irritated skin. Doterra has Lavender Touch in a roller ball that can simply be rolled onto the affected area. You can dilute your own with a carrier oil of your choice in the palm of your hand along with 1-2 drops of lavender. Then massage into the affected area.

Every dog owner’s worst nightmare. How do we deal with this creepy crawly pest, naturally? With Doterra’s Terrashield repellent blend, or a combination of Geranium, Citronella, Lemongrass and Cedarwood. Here is a great blog post on flea and tick prevention. It includes instructions on a DIY spray.

Did you know Border Collies carry a gene that causes them to have severe reactions to brand name flea and tick medications? The MRD1 gene is the ‘multidrug resistance mutation’. Welcome back to our weekly tips and tricks to more natural dog care. 🍃
Peppermint essential oil is made from the entire peppermint plant. The oil is high in menthol, giving cooling and refreshing feelings. Peppermint oil is energizing and provides a pick-me-up when needed. It has been known to relieve sore muscles and achy joints. It’s a great choice for active animals post activity or older dogs.
Peppermint essential oil is also used as a flea and tick deterrent.
For achy joints or an energy boost- pour a bit of carrier oil to the palm of your hand, add 1-2 drops peppermint to the carrier and rub your palms together to mix. With your hands, rub the oil over the area you want to target on your dog.
For flea and tick prevention- Fill a glass spray bottle with 6-8 oz water and 2-3 ounces witch hazel (witch hazel helps to mix in the oils). Place 5-6 drops peppermint oil in the bottle. Shake before each use. Spray over dog’s coat as needed.
A perfect companion never has fewer than four feet 🐾

Yesterday was shearing day 🐑 Logan recently brought home a flock of wool sheep. We got all 27 ewes sheared, and all 4 shepherds earned some sore muscles.💪
We’re thankful for good neighbors who are willing to lend a helping hand and share their knowledge.
Did you know professional sheep shearers sit sheep on their butts and roll to their sides when removing the wool? It’s quite the workout!
Natural and safe tips for your dog’s health:💜🪻
Add a drop of lavender oil to your dog’s collar for calming effects. Great for dogs who suffer from anxiety of any kind. You could also add lavender to the dog’s bedding and blankets to help them get a restful night’s sleep. 😴 .
Dogs are much more sensitive to smells than we are, so it is important to start small when using oils and slowly increasing the amount used. Start with one drop on the collar and see how they react. Because oils are so concentrated, you won’t need more than 1-3 drops to see the oil working for your pup.
