Beth's B***o Barn is a beautiful facility that currently houses 15 amazing donkeys.

Each one has his/her own unique personality!! 4 of our burros were adopted in late 2020 from the Bureau of Land Management after their roundup in the Oatman, AZ area.

The three new saves from Saturday’s auction have arrived at Patch's Place for quarantine and boy they’ll need it!

This 2000🐴 black Percheron mare clearly has STRANGLES!

About 80+ horses (and other animals) ran through Saturday’s auction so they have ALL been exposed to this highly contagious bacteria!

Strangles is a highly contagious upper respiratory tract infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus equi. It is characterized by swollen lymph nodes in the upper respiratory tract that can compress the trachea, larynx, and pharynx, potentially leading to airway obstruction and death. The disease can affect any horse regardless of age, s*x, or breed. Symptoms include nasal discharge, throat swelling, and increased temperature. There is a high risk of strangles in dirty, overcrowded environments.

This is why we quarantine our new intakes for 30 days and closely watch for an outbreak! We’ve had a few cases with strangles over the past seven years and all horses recovered!

So to all the buyers from Saturday’s Elkhart/Texas auction: I hope you quarantine your horses/animals and follow a strict biosecurity protocol as we do!
