IN LIEU OF FIREWORKS...
Independence Day is just days away and many pet owners brace themselves for the afternoon and evening neighborhood fireworks.
Canine hearing is extremely sensitive, allowing them to hear even low-volume sounds from great distances. While you have no knowledge of the FedEx truck that has stopped three-doors-down from your home, your dog is right thereā¦at the front doorā¦barking.
Having said that, consider the sound-intensity of fireworks. The detonations are loud and, in most cases, unexpected. Canines lack an understanding of the celebration-at-hand and hear enormously loud and unanticipated explosions.
Your dog is uncertain whether or not these extremely loud noises pose a threat and, as a result, your pet becomes frightened and anxious. Some dogs feel ātrappedā and, as a result, more dogs run away on the Fourth of July than on any other day!
Many pet owners are forced to medicate their animal(s) in an effort to keep them calm.
A thought...
In lieu of purchasing fireworks this year, please consider making a donation to one of our local animal shelters or rescues. These donations go a long way towards helping these agencies care for the abundance of homeless animals that they protect and shelter.
