Animal shelters all across Southwest Florida are at their tipping point. In many cases, they’re operating well over capacity, some at double or triple the limit they were built to handle.

Meet Mr. Tiny. 😻
He is a tiny thing but his heart is huge! ❤️ He was such a sweet boy!

Please Spay and Neuter your pets! Every time you spay/neuter an animal you are making a conscious effort and choice to eliminate pet overpopulation and pet homelessness. ❤️ TNR works! ❤️

Mr. Blue 💙 a beautiful & sweet Russian Blue crossed the rainbow bridge July 27, 2021 🌈

His paw was severely mangled, most likely due to being crushed my something like a car tire. Poor boy was in pain and suffering however the last moments of his life were pain free and he was surrounded by an amazing, and compassionate team at Gulf Coast Humane Society 💙God bless you guys!

Unfortunately, when Ferals are injured or sick they don’t have the same type of options as indoor cats do. This is why TNR is sooo important! 💙

We love you Mr. Blue! 💙🌈 Please spay and neuter! ❤️

Two spicy kitties weren't enough! This baby was brought into the hospital today to be treated for mange. The woman bringing him in mentioned she caught him to get him TNR'd and tried to contact Fortunate Ferals, but as we aren't operating fully until September she was very lucky to happen to find me! 😻 So he is being treated for mange and will come home with me for a while so he can grow and get ready to be neutered!

In the mean time I'll go through the normal feral kitten routine and hopefully in a couple weeks he will be at the same level as the others and being prepared for getting adopted ❣️ Wish us luck!!!

Meet George, Tom, and Jade! ❣️

They were trapped 2 days ago from a feral colony in Fort Myers. I met their feeder when she came to the Animal Hospital to get Jade treated for mange. Now thanks to her amazing feeders care and compassion, six kitties in this colony are spayed / neutered and getting treatment for their mange! Thank you everyone for your donations to help us help these kitties and a special thank you to the feeder at this colony for loving her kitties so much!

Every now and then someone new will show up to the ferall colony that I manage. This guy has been coming around the last couple days and today his curiosity finally got the better of him and he went into my trap 😻 we already have three appointments scheduled for tomorrow and I am on my way now to trap the three to fill that spot so keep paws crossed that I call in the morning in the Humane Society has some extra spots open!

Today's spicy kitten update!

The initial process of socializing kittens is hard to film because it is essentially wrapping them in a blanket and carrying them around to get used to people. Now that we're beyond that and they're only hissing, and not swatting and biting, when I reach for them, we can update more frequently to show progress.

It might look similar to yesterday but everyday I can see them becoming more relaxed. They are doing so well and we'll on their way to friendly! ❣️

07/17/2021

The kittens are doing fantastic but are still being as spicy as ever. We're getting better day by day and I think in a week or so will be able to see some real progress! They're both girls and have very healthy appetite. I think they'll be wonderful candidates for adoption ❣️😻

Two little babies were trapped and are at the age where we can try and work with them to make them friendly. These two will also be spayed or neutered once they're old enough then hopefully up for adoption!

So far they're still hissy and hateful but I can pet them without a total freakout and they can be picked up and held but are very skittish so we're taking our time. One of them is for sure a girl and the other I haven't gendered yet but in my experience gray tabbies are mostly girls so I assume we've got two ladies on our hands. We will post updates as we go!

Matilda update ❣️

At work a few days ago I happened to get a call from the rescue, HAVEN ON EARTH ANIMAL LEAGUE, that was offering to find placement for her and her kittens. They asked what happened to her and was able to put me in contact with the person who dropped her off at the hospital. Matilda has been friendly with her feeders so we decided to put her into a quarantine kennel since they believe she has adoption potential!

She has had her spay and rabies vaccine and is now in foster with me to put in some time and see if she can come out of her she'll and be a friendly girl ☺️🌈

Meet Mouse! 🐁

She is the last kitten, or so we thought, from a mama and a dad that we posted a couple weeks ago. We decided to name her mouse because she got tired of waiting for dinner the night we trapped her parents and as we were leaving ran across the road with a mouse in her mouth.🐭

During our time trapping this colony the colonies mama cat gave birth to at least one kitten that we found dropped near the feeders mailbox and returned to her. The feeder had not seen any kittens since that time and so after waiting long enough for the kittens to be eating on their own and expecting them to come out of the bushes, we TNR'd mama. Now after it seems we've called the last cat we find out that the kittens did survive!

So now we have a few weeks to wait before they are big enough for their spay and neuter surgeries. During this time we also discovered a second colony just a few houses down and started the process of trapping those cats 😻🧶

This has been a long and busy trap site but we're nearing the end!

This is why we do what we do!

Meet Miss Juli who was TNR’ed in Sept of 2020.

TNR has allowed Juli to continue to live outdoors and live her best life without adding to the cat overpopulation crisis.

She has the best parents who love and care for her! In this video Juli is playing with her new catnip toy. 😻

A cat’s value should not decrease simply because they are an outdoor cat. ❤️

This is why we TNR! ❤️😻

A cat came into my clinic about a week or so ago as an owner surrender. She is extremely feral and during kitten season placement for cats is hard to find especially when they require socialization. The technicians I work with tried to find her placement and we're unsuccessful and at the point that euthanasia began being discussed my trap partner Natalie and I decided we had to step in and do the most difficult thing that you can do for feral cats. Relocation.

Meet Matilda. Natalie came to the hospital and helped me get her in a Humane trap so that she could be transported. We found a colony with a feeder that was willing to integrate her and that we believe she can become acclimated to successfully. The process that I will now be posting is the last ditch effort and should never be considered for cats that aren't in danger or that are happily living in a colony already.

She began this week in a Humane trap and has been placed outside for an hour each day to get a grip on her surroundings. Next week she will have her spay surgery and after will be placed in a large dog kennel that will be left outside for a few more hours a day with supervision. On the third week we will continue this until the beginning of the 4th week where we will release her and paws crossed that she will be able to integrate successfully into her new colony.

Relocation of feral cats is never ideal and not something that we would ever recommend. If you require more information about the process of feral cat relocation or have cats that are in danger because of construction, neighbors, or threat of violence please reach out and we can help you.

You can see the pellet on her X-RAY.

Leia has been referred to a surgical specialist. Poor girl. We hope we can find out who committed this heinous act and bring Leia justice.

We love you Leia! ❤️🐾😻

Lil Bit was a kitty we trapped a while back. An X-ray discovered she had a dislocated hip, which meant for her own good we could not send her back outside.
Feral cats NEED their back legs to defend & protect themselves.

The choice was find her an indoor home and a family who would be willing to be patient and work with a skittish cat or have her euthanized.

After pure panic set in, a Facebook post, several tears, and many text messages, we found her a forever home! Thank you Kaitlyn Marie Knoll ❤️you’re an Angel on earth!

Lil Bit loves her buddy Flash ( the orange kitty).

Fun fact : Flash was an outdoor kitty too, Kaitlyn brought him in when his back legs got bad. Together Lil Bit and Flash make the purrfect pair ❤️😻
