Xena arrived with another dog named Cherry who was recently adopted. Xena’s kennel card says “no small children” because when she first arrived she would occasionally jump up on us. A good percentage of the dogs on the adoption floor jump on us but with consistent training, we’ve found that this can be corrected.

Xena loves carrying her toys around and seems to gravitate to the color blue. She would love to be in a home with another dog with her type of playstyle, “rough and rowdy”.

She’s been very patient, quiet and agreeable with other dogs here at the shelter. Please consider taking her home as a Weekend Warrior or better yet as an adoption!

She’s at Lee County DAS

UPDATE: Adopted

When Peach and Plum, then 6 months old arrived at LCDAS back in late July they had a skin condition that left them nearly hairless, with a sticky, ye**ty odor. That combined with the fact that they hadn’t had their boosters and couldn’t go outside for two weeks. Plum was adopted but Peach is still waiting for a home.

She’s beautiful, healthy, very puppy playful and might benefit from being in a home with another playful dog(no cats).

Please consider adopting our sweet Peach 🍑!

Volunteers Kathryn and Kevin have taken countless dogs home as part of the Weekend Warrior program and have provided valuable information as to the dog’s behavior in a home setting. We post that feedback both on this page and on the kennel upon their return to the shelter.
It does help get them adopted!
This is their impression of Genesis aka Genny💕.

“If you are looking for a sweet, low-key dog, Genny is for you!! This lovable girl with the adorable perpetual worried look is housebroken, walks well on leash and is friendly to people and dogs she meets. While she was anxious for the first few days, watching her confidence grow was a real joy. Genny doesn’t jump on couches or beds, but loves to lounge on dog beds or in a crate and is always ready for a good belly rub. She would make any lucky person a wonderful companion!”

Please stop by the shelter tomorrow and ask to meet Genny!

We just heard that Wiggles was adopted by the family that adopted our beloved Senior Hugo back in April 2024. Hugo will now have a vibrant, playful younger companion that will keep him active! Thank you to her new family for once again choosing to adopt!

UPDATE: Adopted

9 year old Jalapeño(male) and 3 year old Tortilla(female) are a bonded pair that arrived at LCDAS as an owner surrender. They follow each other around and it’s obvious that they have a close, codependent relationship.
Please stop by the shelter to meet this cute couple!

Finn and Amber were found as strays along with 3 other dogs with a similar look and the same age. The others were adopted and now these 2 young pups need homes. They’re 7 month old hound mixes; Amber is extremely playful and confident while Finn is a bit more reserved and not as outgoing.
We’ve had some hounds returned recently because the families had a cat and the cat hound relationship was not a good fit. Keep this in mind if you’re considering Finn or Amber.
