12 year old Reo has been on the adoption floor for over a month and to our knowledge no one has asked to meet him.

He’s 37lbs and looks to be a border collie mix. He likes to do his business outside and is very personable with other dogs fence to fence.

With so many distractions here at the shelter he stays very busy “dog watching” so if you come to meet him he may not appear to be overly affectionate. He’s the sort of dog that once in a loving home will shine and show off his loyalty and devotion to his human.

We all love this handsome older gentleman!

In order to make the day a success, we need you to participate! If you'd like your LCDAS alum(s) to be featured, please send us a private message (comments on this post will not be included) with some favorite photos of your pet(s), along with a short write-up about life in their forever home.

We’ve posted Kiki our longest stay cat numerous time in hopes that she would be noticed and adopted. Well after 5 long months here at the shelter she now has a home with one of our dog volunteers as a foster to adopt!

Candice is letting Kiki decompress and adjust in a separate part of her home and will slowly introduce Kiki to her dogs. She reports that Kiki is doing very well!

We are so grateful that little Kiki is out of the shelter and into a home 💕.

In her 23 years of service to LCDAS Nancy had tirelessly mentored other volunteers, teaching them to care about all the details. She’s taught us to keep kennels spotless during adoption hours, provide comfortable bedding for the dogs, engage with potential adopters and provide enrichment for the pets during their time at the shelter.

Her passion and dedication to the animals at LCDAS deserves a “like” from everyone who sees this post!

Thank you Nancy for your dedication and service to our community here in
Lee County Florida!

Today marks one month since Sasha arrived at LCDAS. She’s now 10 months old, vibrant, active and still able to handle the stress of the shelter environment.

Sasha loves to play fetch, splash in the pool, go for long walks and gets along famously with the other dogs she’s met here at the shelter.

She will flourish in a home with an active human companion who will provide her with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

UPDATE: Adopted

Blitzen was found in Alva, unchipped, unaltered, without a collar and lost and afraid 😔. Officer King carried him to his van, brought him to the shelter and comes to visit him at the end of his shift.

Blitzen has adjusted to shelter life and is no longer so afraid although unexpected loud noises do startle him so if you adopt him be sure to keep him safe during fireworks.

Blitzen is the sweetest boy and his tail gently wags around other dogs.
He’s extremely well mannered, walks nicely on leash and we feel like he’s house trained.
Sounds like the perfect pup, right?

Our longest stay dog Roseanna and one of our long time volunteers Marc spent some time together at the end of the day. They lingered together until once again Roseanna went back to her kennel after yet another long day and night without a home.

At 87 years old Marc is our oldest volunteer and we’d have to say our wisest. We heard him talking to Roseanna offering love 💕 and encouragement and as he walked her slowly back to her kennel his voice became a song(with an Italian accent)that was comforting and hopeful..

If you think she might be a good fit for your family or someone you know please share or visit her at

UPDATE : Adopted

The intake photo(top left)of this baby left an impression and we couldn’t stop thinking about this tiny soul.

She’s now on the adoption floor and was named Peppermint, weighs 7lbs and is thought to be about 5 months old.

She’s very frightened here in the noisy shelter environment and we’re hoping she quickly finds a home.

Please come meet her at
