Fleas
Time for some Friday Flea Facts!
There are “cat fleas” 🐱(Ctenocephalides felis) and “dog fleas” 🐶(Ctenophalides canis), but dogs most commonly get cat fleas!
Different species of fleas can transmit various diseases including ones that humans can acquire.😱
Fleas have a life cycle that includes egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
Adult fleas can emerge from their cocoons in as little as 8 days or as long as 7 months. After a female flea has a blood meal, she can start producing eggs within 20-24 hours and she can produce up to 50 eggs per day!
Flea control can involve treating all pets in the household, as well as the indoor and outdoor areas. Fortunately, there are many effective treatments that allow good flea control! Call us if you would like to know more about these!
Baking Bread
Bread baking is a popular activity for many people who are staying at home these days. Are you aware that dogs (cats possibly but less likely) can have toxicity and GI blockage problems with bread dough? If a counter surfing dog ingests some bread dough, the mass of dough will continue to rise and expand within the stomach and can cause a blockage that cannot be relieved by inducing vomiting. The fermenting dough also produces alcohols that can cause toxicity issues.
Please keep any dough safely out of reach of your pets!

In this profession we lose patients who are near and dear to us. We miss them as if they were our own pets. Sometimes they pass at home and sometimes we help them cross the rainbow bridge. After that time the families can grieve knowing they helped their pet the best way they knew how.
Then there are days where we lose our own pets. Yesterday was that day for our doctor and her family. They lost their beloved Maggie. Doctor Sauer is here working today but with a heavy heart. Maggie was adored by everyone who met her. She has been with us from the start of this clinic and helped make it what it is today. We are thankful for the time we had with Maggie. ❤️
Meet Baby Girl! This adorable Chihuahua is a rescue pup adopted by our technician. When she arrived, she weighed 13.8 pounds and was lethargic due to her obesity. She was placed on a strict diet of Hill’s Metabolic food. She also began an exercise program. As you can see from the last two photos, this routine is making an amazing difference! She weighs 9.8 pounds (with a target weight of 8) and has lots of energy! We think she is the winner of Transformation Tuesday! Photo Credit: Mary Snow
