AND CATS

When dogs carrying a genetic mutation called MDR1 🧬 (officially known as the ABCB1 gene mutation) are given common drugs 💊 like Imodium, ivermectin, or acepromazine, they can suffer serious neurological reactions. 🧠⚠️

Priscilla was great. I recommend her. The biggest reason I use Talus is the customer care response. Right now I am frustrated with Talus cooperate because she helped me set up a website access and when I tried to log in 8 minutes after setting it up my account the thing reads disabled so I called and got another nice gentleman fairly quickly who said I have to change my email...this makes absolutely no sense at all and so I will continue without using their website because I am not going to start a new email address for them and who's to say that one will work after wasting more time trying

"I dream of a world where no one hurts animals," a sentiment shared by many who understand the deep connection between humans and animals. In a world where compassion should prevail, it’s essential that we all work together to protect the voiceless creatures that share this planet with us. Animals are not just pets; they are sentient beings deserving of our care and respect.

When we act with kindness toward our pets, we are setting an example for others to follow. Whether it's providing shelter, food, or just showing love, each action contributes to building a better world for animals. Every small change we make in our daily lives adds up to create a compassionate community where all creatures can thrive.

It’s up to each of us to ensure that animals everywhere are treated with the kindness they deserve. Together, we can help create a future where animals are safe, loved, and cherished. Let's make that dream a reality by taking action today. 🌍💖

NATIONAL SEAT BELT DAY

While governmental agencies use this designated day to remind people to "buckle up," the Lee County Sheriff's Office Animal Cruelty Task Force reminds you that there should be equal concern for our furry family members.

Many of us enjoy traveling down the open road. And, many of us enjoy doing so with our pooch along for the ride.

Most dogs seem to love these family trips…bounce from window to window…often climbing into the front seat, attempting to commandeer the vehicle.

While government safety standards and vehicle safety systems have gone to great lengths to protect human passengers, not much has been done to protect our pets from disastrous and fatal outcomes.

There are a number of safety issues to recognize. Human safety is an issue, as well.
Consider this: an unrestrained 50-pound dog, following a 30-mile-per-hour collision, will fly across your vehicle with an impact force of approximately 1,500 pounds. So, prior to discussing our furry friends’ well-being and survival, the damage that can be inflicted upon human passengers is horrendous. To keep this in perspective, former British heavyweight boxer, Frank Bruno (who fought Mike Tyson in 1989), had the force of his punch measured. That punch was recorded at 1,420 pounds.

Reportedly, unrestrained dogs have been ejected through windshields, thrown through windows (both opened and closed), and have suffered horrific skeletal damage often resulting in euthanization.

There are now a number of safety features designed to reduce/prevent the types of serious injuries that occur as results of vehicular accidents.

One such feature is the canine seat belt. This belt must be secured to a PROPERLY FITTING HARNESS…not to a dog collar. A SEAT BELT CONNECTED TO A DOG COLLAR WILL LIKELY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DEATH TO THE ANIMAL. These belts can be adjusted to allow side-to-side movement in the back seat of your vehicle without permitting them to climb into the front seat. Connected to a quality, well-fitting harness, the likelihood of injury to the dog…or to humans on board…is greatly reduced.

Another option is referred to as a “zip-line.” This line runs near the interior roof line and is connected to passenger “grab-handles.” Also, connected to an appropriate harness, this will allow freedom of movement, but will secure the canine during collision or sudden stops. Please note that some pet-safety consultants do not endorse the zip-line-type products.

Lastly, there are numerous manufacturers who produce crash-tested crates for dogs. This choice may be less desirable to those who wish to allow their pet to roam the back seat, however, testing has demonstrated a definite safety value…especially for smaller dogs weighing up to 15 pounds.
