I am so excited about this food I was reintroduced to it at the last holistic vet meeting last month
They send me some free samples and my cats actually ate it

ACORNS AND FIDO

While the change in weather that accompanies Autumn may be less noticeable in Florida, the terrain in the Sunshine State is still saturated with fallen acorns.

Florida is home to approximately 24 species of native Oak trees and, as fall and early winter sweep across the state, a bounty of acorns litters the land.

Additionally, a condition called “masting” can occur when an extensive number of acorns drop quickly from trees as a result of severe weather such as hurricanes or drought.

A symbol of autumn, the acorn embodies nature’s natural cycle of life.

Acorns, however, contain “tannins;” a natural compound with a bitter taste that serves to discourage animals from eating them. Tannins also prevent oxidation and protect the seeds from microbes.

So…what does this have to do with your pooch??

Tannins cause kidney and liver damage when consumed by canines!

Acorns vary, based upon the tree from which they originated, but all contain sharp and rigid parts that can cause intestinal blockage and/or choking.

At best, a dog eating acorns will experience significant gastrointestinal difficulties.

It is important that we avoid distractions while walking our dogs as it takes seconds for a canine to consume an acorn.

Signs of acorn consumption include vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal discomfort/pain and lethargy.

Please contact your veterinarian should your pet ingest all or part of an acorn.
