Special Equestrians, Inc. celebrates a very impactful CHAMPION! 🥇🐴❤️ Dee Hollander, SE Head Instructor, founder, and friend, shares, "Through the years, I have seen many miracles. Riders with no legs, no arms, paraplegic, low muscle tones, couldn't walk...talk, some who have sustained mental and physical abuse...overcome challenges through horses. My love for children and horses has kept me with SE since I founded the organization in 1987. So many blessings...to see riders' smiles while riding and see them do something they couldn't do before has been the greatest heartwarming thing for me." Dee is not only the founder of the organization but also helped start Ride-A-Thon 34 years ago and our signature fundraiser, Taste of Love. Special Equestrians, Inc. announces St. Francis Xavier Catholic School's Jukebox Time Machine will showcase its talent on Saturday, February 15th, as part of the 34th Annual Ride-A-Thon event. This talented group of sixth graders is directed by sponsor and friend Jeff Jodice, SFX's music and theatre director. We thank the Inspired Images & Events owner, Jeff, for donating the unique raffle items and DJing our event. Get those boots ready to dance to the oldies, country, and rock & roll as we celebrate our CHAMPIONS, horses, supporters, sponsors, and friends at the Special Equestrians' Ride-A-Thon!

We have another CHAMPION supporting our mission and Making Miracles Happen! 🥇🐴✨💕The following is from Amy's Champion pledge page! "Hi! My name is Amy Oxendine and I've been a volunteer at Special Equestrians since 2009. I became a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor in 2010. I created a champion page to create excitement for all that Special Equestrians has to offer to its participants, volunteers, staff, families, and horses! Many miracles, whether big or small, happen every time we step a foot or hoof on the property. Many times, it's things that go unnoticed, but the miracles are still there! Every lesson, I see how equine-assisted therapy helps riders build confidence, improve strength, and develop their social skills. No matter the day I might be having, as soon as the riders approach the arena, they are smiling, hugging the volunteers, calling out my name, looking for their horse and they are ready to climb up into the saddle. Special Equestrians, Inc. celebrates another CHAMPION! 🥇🐴The following appears on Diane’s pledge page, “Hi, I’m Diane Shaw. I have been a volunteer with Special Equestrians since 2007, and have also been a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor there since 2017. I created my champion page to support my drill team, Red Moon Riders. These riders and all my students are champions in my book. Our motto is “Making Miracles Happen”, and this is what I get to be a part of in each of my classes. I have seen some amazing things while working with my students. I may be the instructor, but I learn from my students all the time. They show me courage in the face of obstacles, patience when their bodies don’t work the way they want, smiles just because they are on a horse, determination to complete a task, and so many other things. It is a joy to watch the confidence our students gain as they learn to ride. You can help us continue to make miracles happen by donating to our fundraiser. Special Equestrians, Inc. celebrates another CHAMPION! 🥇The following is found on Suzanne’s pledge page. “My name is Suzanne Renwick and I'm a Therapeutic Riding Instructor at Special Equestrians in Fort Myers Florida. The importance of me creating my champion page is to Champion all my riders every time they come to class. Therapeutic riding benefits these individuals physically & emotionally. It's not just the passion that they have for the horses. It's the passion that they have for learning to accomplish things they never thought possible. I've witnessed many first's for so many of these riders. First time ever touching a horse, mounting a horse, first time riding and for some of them even their first time ever speaking! Their bravery and perseverance, to be able to ride, regardless of the severity of their disability. Imagine being blind and in a wheelchair to be so brave to get on a horse that moves underneath you and turns and stops and smile the whole time. It is so exhilarating to see.
Therapeutic riding is beneficial because it provides a unique combination of physical movement, emotional connection with the horse, and the need to develop specific skills, leading to improvements in balance, coordination, muscle strength, self-esteem, confidence, patience, and social skills, particularly for individuals with physical or emotional challenges; the horse's ability to respond to human emotions can also foster a sense of trust and responsibility while promoting positive behavioral changes.
Some of my riders have limited resources therefore I am asking you to pledge some money whether it's $10 or $100. All your donations go towards helping my riders to be able to participate in Ride-A-Thon and continue their therapeutic riding with me. Special Equestrians, Inc. celebrates Brenda and Merle for championing our mission.✨The following is from Brenda’s Champion Pledge Page. “I'm so fortunate to have my horse Merle, and we ride all the time and we're competing on the weekends and having fun. Our horses at Special Equestrians work every day too, they take good care of our riders and bring them joy and confidence and a break from the every day routine. I've volunteered with Special Equestrians for 10 years as their Treasurer, but more importantly as a horse leader in classes on Saturday. Our herd has changed this year, we've added Echo, Fabio, Honey, Dan Lucky, Canvas, and Marsh. Finding these horses that are calm and safe for our riders is a challenge and they are not always donated. We've had to purchase our horses more often than not. The money raised through Ride-a-Thon keeps our program going and lets us expand our support of the special-needs community and provide them an experience unlike any other therapy they can get. Below is one of our riders with Stormy getting ready for their lesson.

Special Equestrians, Inc. needs volunteers! Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of a dynamic community of extraordinary people who make marked differences in the lives of others? There is no better way to immerse yourselves in our community than volunteering at the 34th Ride-A-Thon. Many hands make light work! We need many hands on Friday, February 14th, and Saturday, February 15th, to Make Miracles Happen! Our needs include set up, breakdown, registration, raffle set up, parking, arena assistance, and general troubleshooting. We have strong teams of volunteers already in place that can guide you.
