Special Equestrians, Inc. held our first Reading Rodeo event today at the center for our participants, friends, and families! Thank you to all of the SE friends who donated to Shelly’s Book Garden and brought this event to life. We enjoyed not only reading alongside our herd of therapeutic horses but also getting active with hobbyhorse rodeo races, crafts, and games beneath the brilliant October sun! Our event took place in the future site of the Wishing Well Sensory Garden. Our families, staff, and volunteers are already enjoying this space as our community transforms this small space into a natural area of healing, joy, and wishes! Please consider donating to this initiative as we introduce the grounding power of therapeutic horticulture to our community. Volunteer Coordinator, Melissa Velez, is leading the way and invites you to take a tour, learn more, and become a volunteer as we break ground on this exciting initiative. Help us transform this small space into a sensory experience! We are graciously accepting donations for this project! https://entry.givesmart.com Making Miracles Happen one wish at a time! Night, night, Stormy! 🌘🙏🏼🐴

Special Equestrians, Inc.'s Pony Pals is one of our outreach programs in which our therapy horses and outreach team make visits to local agencies, schools, and community groups. Lead Instructor, Pony Pal, and OG therapy mini Guinness' mama, Amy Oxendine, authored an article in Florida Country & Coast Magazine highlighting this life-changing program! Click to read! https://www.floridacountrymagazine.com/2025/08/27/12025/ The Pony Pals program is designed to educate and provide human-animal contact for children and adults, which can result in benefits such as: empathy building, outward focus, nurturing skills, rapport building, acceptance, entertainment, socialization, mental stimulation, physical contact and touch, and physiological benefits. Bringing a trained horse to meet with participants is meant to facilitate growth in these areas as a natural source of healing in our community. Our Pony Pals share joy and bring smiles to everyone we meet. Please consider donating to this program so we can share the love and reach our community! https://ponypals.givesmart.com

Visits last approximately one hour and can be structured to include one or more of the following:

Meet and Greet our Pony Pals horses – pet and brush a Pony Pals horse
Learning about Horses – 4 learning stations (horses, grooming, feed, equipment)
Reading Rodeo Literacy Program – Read, or listen to, three books about horses and earn a copy of our book, "Guinness the Rescue Pony." If you are interested in organizing a visit, email us at [email protected]. 🐴💗🐴

Special Equestrians, Inc. introduces Reading Rodeo a literacy program of Special Equestrians, Inc., which began as part of Pony Pals Outreach. Our team is busy planning event opportunities for our participants and the greater community to develop a love for reading through interaction with our herd of therapeutic riding horses. Our first event, which includes time reading with our horses, will be held on October 18th, and is open to our enrolled participants, their families, and friends. Click this link to sign up! https://forms.gle/di1v6TXsJgWh9dDz6

If you or anyone you know connects with this initiative, please consider donating to this cause. We aim to develop Shelly's Book Garden, our library space, and cover event costs, including refreshments, crafts, and mandatory staffing for our special Reading Rodeo events. Please donate by clicking this link https://readingrodeo.givesmart.com or visit our donation page at specialequestrians.net.

We hope our participants will join us this Saturday and the greater community will join us for future events! Save the Date for our first public Reading Rodeo event on November 15th from 12:30-2pm.

Special Equestrians, Inc. experienced the MIRACLE of connection this past weekend! ✨It's true. We have a long waiting list for our therapeutic riding classes. The number of certified instructors serving in classes, the herd dynamics, rider retention, uninterrupted service structures, and the number of trained volunteers influence the list. Our commitment to maintaining a therapeutic environment, respecting natural limits to ensure our participants receive high-quality services, and ensuring the fair treatment of our herd is unwavering. Our commitment to quality and fairness is the core of everything we do. 💪Although we are proud of the strides we are making in certifying instructors, managing the herd, and expanding services, every time we welcome a new rider to our TR roster, we are profoundly moved and motivated to do even more. This special moment, captured by a participant's caregiver after his very first ride following a time on our wait list, serves as a reminder of the miraculous moments that unfold between human and horse and motivates our team to build future connections and celebrate the participants we currently serve. 🥰 Making Miracles Happen one first ride at a time!✨🐎💫
