PLEASE- take your dogs to potty before your appointment!
Even if it is raining.
9 of 10 dogs had to be rewashed and dried today due to kennel accidents! Everyone told me the same reason.
“I didn’t take them out.”

IT IS STATE LAW (TN/GA) THAT ALL CATS AND DOGS BE VACCINATED AGAINST RABIES.

Rabies What is rabies? Rabies is a deadly virus that is transmitted by bites from an infected animal. Rabies can be prevented if treated promptly before symptoms develop. Left untreated, rabies is nearly always fatal. Although rabies in humans is very rare in the United States today, up to 40,000 pe...

We received word from our friends at the USDA that a raccoon in East Brainerd tested positive for rabies. The unfortunate critter had been found acting sick on July 17 and was referred for euthanasia and testing.

We’re so thankful when the public is willing to cooperate with euthanizing terminally ill animals for rabies testing. Central nervous system infections in wildlife are not treatable and always warrant testing. Although the majority of these infections in our area are caused by the canine distemper virus, rabies is a very real and serious risk.

Since there are no effective tests for rabies in living animals, we always make the decision to humanely euthanize animals with symptoms of central nervous system infections. Your cooperation with this helps to prevent animals from suffering unnecessarily and also helps to minimize the risks that wildlife can pose to humans.

Please know the signs of central nervous system infections in wildlife! Rabies and distemper don’t always (or even usually!) look like what you know from Old Yeller and Cujo. The unfortunate critters who catch these conditions usually act weak, lethargic, and confused. They may have seizures or “chewing gum fits” or twitch uncontrollably. Often, they will drag one or more legs due to muscle paralysis— this symptom is very frequently mistaken for a broken leg.

Don’t fear or harm wildlife, but do be on the lookout. Never handle wild mammals without some form of protection. A cage trap for older animals and a pair of garden gloves for babies is ideal. If you do find an animal that has symptoms of rabies or distemper, please promptly call your local animal control to arrange the next steps.

As always, we’re thankful for your help looking out for our amazing native animals!
