In the category of "never stop learning," Dr. Becker has amazing tips each day regarding good pet health in her emails.
Save this one for the weekend and begin to really observe your dog(s).
Regardless of their age, make notes and take photos of their gait. So very easy to do any more with our technology. File these so if something does happen, or, is already happening you can go to your vet armed with good info that is more objective than subjective.
Always set your dog up for success by being educated and aware!

Things to do on a rainy afternoon with your dog: set up an indoor obstacle course with stations like:
1) paws up on an object
2) go to spot(mat,bed)
3) Hop up on a station and get a little brushy brush
4) Fetch a toy
5) Put a toy in a box
6) Circle around me in both directions

Run them through the course a couple of times and burn off a little of that energy!🤪😉

If your dog doesn’t know some of these things, don’t worry. Substitute any of the stations with other behaviors your dog knows. Just remember have fun and reward often!

Workin' on her birthday!? That's right, Little Essay, the youngest Farm Princess turns THREE TODAY! 😱 How did that happen?
Because of her dedication to return to her work at the Farm, Essay spent her birthday morning at Treasure Coast Animal Rehab & Fitness with Liz and Dr. A., getting fitted with her straps and a snazzy harness to help build those Border Collie muscles and tendons. She is using the wall to learn to keep her gait straight and proper in her first steps.
Great work, Worm - pretty soon you will be back to your job and out of that crate rest stuff. You are such a good, good girlie in your recovery and did we hear something about...swimming lessons beginning soon??🫢
With working dogs, sometimes recovery takes an army of support to get to your finish line. Essay has one of the best, most well-equipped support staffs there are.
So happy birthday Essay! You will be out in the fields with your big bro Conor, your bestie big sis Skye Talks and her pesky little sister, the amazing Miss "Little M" Maisie soon!
Do your exercises, take your meds and supps and enjoy the attention.

Huge shout out to Madie who did a Fantastic job assisting in the round pen. She did a beautiful job building each dog's confidence while setting them up for success.

As you can imagine, leaving one pasture and suddenly finding yourself and 11 of your closest sheep friends in new fields can be stressful, so the new girls are taking this time to adjust to their new home and get used to the current wooly residents. Make sure you throw a little “welcome home corn” their way next time you’re at the Farm!

Make the workshop on January 20 a plan. It doesn't matter what your dog does or doesn't do, there will be something to learn for all of you.

Anyone who has been a patient or been to any of my lectures has heard me use the phrase Tool Kit 🧰 to explain my skill set.

A tool kit is a group of skills that you acquire with education, experience and specialized training. At this time, animal physical rehabilitation is a less common set of skills than some people have experienced.

Frequently, people think of rehabilitation (we don’t say physical therapy) as an underwater treadmill 💦 and a massage 🙌🏼. I get referrals to swim dogs and to get them in the treadmill frequently. Rehabilitation is a vast, exciting and dynamic field of medicine, not just the underwater treadmill.

When I talk about rehabilitation I am talking about maximizing function and quality of movements to improve the lives of handicapped, painful and aging pets. This includes a proper diagnosis 🩺, personalized plan (including supplements 🌿that have clinical efficacy, medications 💊 that are targeted for your pets condition, exercises 🐾, manual therapy 🙌🏼 and more), and a maintenance plan 📝.

Just like us, we need to feel comfortable with what our doctors recommend and what we can achieve for our selves. It is possible to have this for our pets.

When you visit TC Animal rehab with your pet you receive comprehensive rehabilitation which includes but is not limited to; therapeutic exercises, joint mobilizations, glides, compression, traction, massage, myofacial release, integrative therapies, and more.

Rehabilitation is a medical specialty and only a trained and certified medical team should be providing these services to your pet to prevent injuries and maximize outcomes.

In my case I’m a veterinarian, I have been certified in rehabilitation for 10 years. I have advanced training in Hospice and End of Life and I am a Certified Canine Arthritis Management Practitioner.

Our team also consists of Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant, Certified Canine Fitness Instructors, Animal Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, and more.

Well - this was TOUGH! So, we put it to the heavens to The Big Man, Driver, who departed this year though will always and forever be a part of the Farm. Driver's work ethic and spirit is a perfect testament of a soul who proved to the world that with work, love, trust and faith, there is always, "more."
After his heavenly paw sent the decision back, we noticed he chose Packs (yes, we chose more than one winner - though wait - there is even MORE - to quote Darius, "like a game show contestant with a parting gift, I could not believe my eyes!") who showed careful work ethic and put thought to the project. A life lesson Driver left to all of us.
So, without further ado, this year's 2023 Draxen Farms Reindog Contest Winners are....drumroll please...drum...roll... Conor...Conor.....COOONNNNNNNOOOOOORRRR! Wait, what? Uh huh...he's commandeered the van and is on the way to Merritt Island for a ham supper!!? Via Port St. Lucie, Palm City and Stuart and surrounding areas to pick up the Posse?? Jessh, well, okay - so all the new dog stuff says no ham... Yeah, okay, we do have that prime rib - and - oh - we'll sort all that out in a bit - no more run-around!

Well it's Fri-YAY and to bring us our Howliday weekend blow out is The Blue-Man! This guy has been at the Farm since he was rescued from unknown circumstances and is now the Senior Operator at Goose Feather Farms. He's also in charge of keeping the Twins, Rhys who was featured earlier in the week and Seren, who you will meet soon, in line. He says he handles the young'uns with a stern though light paw. Then he saunters away and lets the Queen of Goose Feather Farms, Skye the Happy Pup sorta...well...do her thing.

Our DF Farmdog of today is quite possibly the Best.Dog.Ever., Trekker-Dog! Though he crossed the Rainbow Bridge last year, this guy is one of those never-forgetters in everyone's mind who ever met him and the lessons he left to us.
He was a personal mentor, and when we get in certain situations we think WWTD and his gentle paw guides us. Thanks, T-Dog.
