Anyone interested in a show prospect(steer), pasture pet, no maintenance w**d eater, dog chaser or freezer special?

He is bred right and registerable. You can name him and brand him or we can. Very calm and gentle- stays where you put him. He’s that back pocket type of animal, that wants to be your buddy just like his daddy. Parents on site if you want to see them.

Talk about a “glow up”. Well, it’s not really a glow up, because 7 years ago today, Chex Mix won us our first Millennium win.

She was the third animal ever born on our ranch. That calf crop was incredible! Chex became our first Millennium Futurity win, Gyspy became our first ever born and bred animal to 90” T2T cow, and our first steer (that was also born and bred by us) went on to break the 100” T2T mark. Imagine the possibilities if every calf crop was that productive?! 😉

These pictures are Chex Mix then and now! She is still an unbelievably beautiful animal.

Chex Mix is now owned by Tom and Amy Buxton of Buxton Longhorns

We will be making the trip to the Fiesta Sale this weekend May 3rd- May 5th. We will have open cuts both ways if anyone needs hauling to and from any of these routes.

Your animals will be hauled in a 2022 custom Cimarron gooseneck trailer. That is 28’ long 8 wide by 7.6 high for added room and comfort for those horns, with air vents for each cut. It has a padded 4’ front compartment for those little ones as well.

We will haul at a rate of $1.00 per loaded mile(per head) with a max haul of $400(per head) for up to 500 miles to help extend these routes a bit if needed. We will only haul up to 4 head in the trailer combined.

We can also hold your cattle at our place for $5.00 per day if you need to make other pickup or travel arrangements.

Please let me know if we can help out.

My daughter and I were able to attend the Cherry Blossom event hosted by G&G Longhorns. Sale host Ann Gravett and Ranch Manager Shawn Pequignot asked if I would be one of the futurity judges as well. All of the judges were given this custom leather bound notebook and this morning I put our brand on it. One of the many highlights to the weekend, besides being with the Longhorn family and friends, was my daughter got to meet my all time favorite cow in the breed: BL Monika. Being on the East Coast is something special. Make sure to attend one of the sales held out there- you won’t regret it!

We got a little lucky this morning. Went out to check on all the cows and noticed that an 88” momma had a calf hanging half in and half out of her. Got momma in the holding stalls, got the baby out, and stood up. After a while the baby stood by itself, momma held still, and the little guy got to nurse. Often times, you’re better off lucky than good. Even on your best days, a little luck never hurts!

2024 calving season has begun.

We’re tossing around the idea of putting our Gypsy girl in a 2024 sale. She is sired by the great JP Rio Grande over an inconic mix of older genetics. Last year, her twisty horn set pushed over the 90” T2T mark as well. In her younger years, she placed no less than 3rd in both the Millennium Futurity and Longhorn World Championships futurity. We’re going to monitor her likes and she what they show us. The more likes, the more interest we believe she’ll have in the sale ring. Legacy sale deadline is December 18, but being sired by the a legend qualifies her for the Legends sale as well. Plus, we believe she would fit in nicely in a Hudson/Valentine sale too. Please let us know your thoughts, is it time for her to move pastures and which sale would you like to see her in? Thank you and we look forward to your feedback.

Facebook told me that we needed to make a post, so I figured why not post our favorite picture of this mostly unknown bull.

Which bull would you say is the most unknown commodity to our breed?

We’ll go first: SEE4’s Undaunted!
This bull is literally the “if you know- you know” unknown bull in the breed. Speaking with another breeder the other day, I said, his “biggest flaw” was that he hasn’t been on more cows. This bull has done it all and looks absolutely stunning while doing it. He has produced futurity winning calves, a 70” Tip to Tip Daughter at 24” old, and the body he puts on his calves is settler. He hasn’t been seen, in person by a lot of people, but those that have seen him- walk away very impressed with him and his disposition. A true gentle giant of our breed. Which makes him our pick.

Well shoot! The bull streak continues! For the second straight year, our calving season ends with 100% bull ratio.

We could look at this as a negative, but instead we know it’s God’s way of telling us we need to continue to add new bloodlines to our herd. So as long as our bull babies allow us to bring in heifers from other bloodlines- life is still good!

This pearl coated, big bull baby, is out of our best producing momma cow and SEE’s Tinker. His color will change as he matures, but his pearl essence was a first in our herd. White is white but he has a shimmer to him. Maybe it’s his new life glow!

We’ve had a few people reach out to us, looking for Undaunted calves. David and Angie Wulf have a couple of cows bred to Undaunted that should be dropping those babies soon. Their cow, Mighty Purdy, is an absolute steal and bred to Undaunted, so please look over their site and get you a good one for a great price.

A few updates:

SEE4’s Carillon did not make the catalog but will be there. He is a very impressive steer that was growing at record pace. He was on track to be one of the fastest growing steers on record. But, unfortunately, his horns were damaged by frostbite. He lost both his tips and his right horn has a small spot from where we had to treat an infection, probably from frostbite as well. He is completely healed up and won’t have any lasting effects from it. He will still be a 80 to 100” + T2T steer at maturity or I’ll buy him back!

Pillsbury is bred to SEE4’s Tinker

Lucky Callin is bred to SEE4’s Undaunted

SEE4’s Audacious Lady has a black/white bull calf at side, out of SEE4’s Tinker and was exposed back to SEE4’s Tinker for what should be a 3n1 opportunity. She did have a small utter early on after calving for the first time. We were deep in a drought and that might have effected her because since we’ve had some rain she has been milking better and the calf is doing very well.

The 2 bull calves are absolute tanks! You’d think they were fattening steers. The are growing better than w**ds in the fall. Take your pick of either of them- your herd will thank you.

Story time so gather around.

Quite a few years ago, I sat at a table, and felt so out of place. Here I sat with a group of breeders that to this day are some of the best the breeds ever seen and then me. To keep from name dropping, I’ll just say, I didn’t belong in the group, probably never will, and we’ll leave it at that. If the Longhorn World had a Mount Rushmore, a couple of them would be on it.

At this table, two very well known breeders started talking about “swapping” stock, bragging about their herds, and cracking jokes on each other’s private planes. Yup, that’s right, which one’s plane was the nicest. The one breeder said to the other “I wouldn’t sell my herd for a million dollars” the other said back “If I give you a million dollars right now for it, you’re really going to turn that down?” as he reached for his checkbook. This type of conversation went back and forth for a few minutes, until one of them turned to me and said “You want in on this?” I just smiled and said “Y’all left me at the door about an hour ago, a mill is a bit out of my price range”. They just laughed and continued to carry on…a few moments later, one looked me dead in the eye and said “well we’ve got to get you an 80” cow at the sale tomorrow, so you’ll be able to get off the porch”.

Ironically, I had just purchased a young heifer and young cow from this breeder, both were in his cull herds, but they were trophies to me. He knew that and he talked these two up like they were going to be something. That’s just how he was, him and his family, always found a way to make you feel important. I told the table that night “I’m not sure I’ll ever own an 80” cow, let alone buy one tomorrow” That breeder responded “Sure you will, you need a loan?” I came to find out the “loan him” phrase was a thing during the auction. You’ll still hear it from time to time today as well.

Fast forward a few years, we were both kind of right that night. I still haven’t purchased an 80” cow, but that breeder was right, because I did finally get to own one. “Gypsy” pictured here on the right, would surpass the 80” mark a few years ago. Gypsy was the first calf, we ever bred for in our little herd. She wasn’t the first we ever calved, but she was the first planned breeding we ever did. We AI’d her mother, the cow on the left, to JP Rio Grande and out of the 4 we took that year to AI, her mother was the only one that took. We considered it a failure, 1 out of 4, that was just horrible luck. Little did we know, that because she was the only calf that year, what we were able to give her would springboard her potential.

Gypsy would continue to reach expectations we never thought possible when she finally went over the 90” Tip to Tip mark this last weekend. She measured 90 1/8”! Not only did she become our first 80” animal, but now she is our first 90” animal. Looking back at that infamous night, sitting around that table, feeling so out of place, wondering what it would be like to have one of the elite cattle in the breed- well now I know!

Welcome to the 90” club Gypsy!

This little guy might not look like much right now, at just 3 months old, but he will!

Cow Power: ✅
All three (3) of his “dams”, mother and both grandmothers, are over 88” T2T! Granddam on the top is over 90”. His mother should be over 90” before the end of summer as well.

Bull Power: ✅
JP Rio Grande, Sniper, and Sharp Shooter just to name drop a little.

We call him: SEE4’s Valor

Watch him color up as well. This guy has earned a spot in the “watch me” pasture at weaning.

This is one of our up and coming heifers (won’t be 2 until Dec.) She has proven even in a harsh drought, great things can grow!
