***Adopted***

Check out these pretty girls! They were rescued when just a few days old after being abandoned under some heavy machinery. These sisters will be a great addition to any family. While they would love to stay together as they are best pals, they just want a chance to have a family of their own. They have been around both dogs and other cats with no issue. They will come fully vaccinated and spay will be included in the adoption fee. If you're interested in either one of these cutie pies, PM us your name, address, phone number, and current veterinarian. Adoption fee is $60 each or $100 for the pair. Adoption fee covers the cost of vaccinations, initial flea treatment, and spay surgery.

Does anyone out there have experience with Wobbly Cat Syndrome who would be willing to give this feral a safe barn or shed to live in?? She was captured as part of a trap neuter release in Bronson. With the syndrome, she struggles to protect herself from the other strays and ferals. She was spayed and vaccinated this week and we are hoping to find a safe spot for her rather than releasing.

Your change matters!

We've been a bit quiet on social media lately but wanted to let everyone know we're as busy as ever. In the past 5 months since we discontinued sheltering operations, we have provided nearly a thousand pounds of cat and dog food to community members in need and feral cat colony caretakers. We have spayed and neutered approximately 30 stray cats and 10 dogs from the local city pound. We've also provided support to Pawprints On The Heartland as they focus on their spay neuter mission, gifting them much needed wall cages and funds.

We hope to spay and neuter another 100 cats this year and appreciate the support we receive from the community to meet this goal. These two donation boxes along with a cash donation made this morning totaled $272! This will provide spay and neuter services for approximately four cats. While that may not sound like a lot, this will prevent the birth of hundreds of feral cats.

Thank you again to everyone who supports us with change and donations, feral cat colony caretakers, and trap neuter volunteers. We couldn't do this without community support.

****UPDATE*****
We still need a foster for 1 dog!

Paws and Claws just assisted the City of Fort Scott Animal Control and FSPD evacuate the city pound. Stormwater has flooded the facility and we are looking for temporary fosters or adopters for TWO dogs.

These rescues have come from a high stress situation with the recent storms and flooding. Ideal foster homes will be able to keep them isolated until they can be adopted or returned to the pound after waters recede and the facility is deep cleaned and dried out.

Paws and Claws will fully vet these dogs this week if anyone is interested in adopting. A donor is covering adoption fees and Paws and Claws will cover vaccinations, deworming, and spay/neuter!

If you are able to Foster or adopt one of these pups, please message us on Facebook!

Paws and Claws will be closed for the month of January. We look forward to returning to work in February with some major changes to the services we offer. The biggest change will be a shift away from sheltering. We will no longer have a "brick and mortar" with on site sheltering. We are introducing two new community based programs to address the needs of pets in our community.

First we are going to operate a Trap Neuter Release program to address the extensive cat population issue in Fort Scott. In recent months, Paws and Claws has worked with several vets to spay and neuter over 100 cats! This has had a positive impact on the individuals and neighborhoods caring for these cat colonies in addition to preventing the further growth of the colonies. While cats have been the area of greatest need, we have also been assisting with spays and neuters for stray dogs, pound dogs, and abandoned dogs in the community.

The other program we will be focusing on this year is developing a pet supply pantry to assist low income pet owners and cat colony caretakers with supplies. More details about how to qualify and sign up for this program will be available at the end of January.

We look forward to continuing to serve the community through these new programs. While some may be disappointed with the end of sheltering operations, there are great organizations in our region and countless individuals who work to rehome homeless and unwanted pets and we will continue to support their efforts. Returning to our organization's roots will benefit so many animals in our community and we are excited to provide these much needed services in Fort Scott.
