Here’s a scary, not-so-fun fact to get in the Halloween spirit: did you know that ticks are active anytime above freezing temperatures? That means that even now as we enter November, ticks are still out there biting and spreading diseases like Lyme and ehrlichiosis to both our furry friends and ourselves!

The number one way to prevent ticks from spreading their disease is effective flea and tick prevention. If you need prevention, give us a call at 859-442-4420 or 859-356-2242!

Rabies is not eradicated in the US. Rabies vaccines are very effective

With the recent rabies-positive bat in Pendleton county, we thought it would be important to share with you all the dangers of rabies and the importance of a rabies vaccine.

As the map shows, there have been 6 total positive rabies cases in our area (4 in Kenton, 2 in Pendleton), of which all 6 came from bats. It is important to realize that a bat's bite is so small that it can sometimes go unnoticed, so please keep close attention to your animals and yourselves!

The number 1 thing pet owners can do to protect themselves from rabies is to vaccinate their pets. Not only will it protect your fur babies, but it will protect pet parents from catching it themselves from their pets.

Over the last 2 years many of you have been to our Ft. Thomas office and had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Gersch. We regret to inform you that Dr. Gersch will be leaving Veterinary Medical Centers. While March 31st, 2021 will be her last day full-time with us, she will continue to work when we need additional doctor coverage. We are committed to seeing that your fur baby’s transition to Dr. Baker and Dr. Metka’s care is seamless and satisfactory. While we are excited for her and the next step in her career, we will miss her and the professionalism she brings to our team. So it is with mixed emotions we are now saying goodbye.
