Both of these litters turned out fantastic!
These babies will be ready to go home in just a few short weeks. Kalani's litter (NDxK) should be ready by 2/17, Helena's litter (FxH) the following week. Babies need to hit 200g to go home. Both litters are already weaning and gaining like champs!

I do still have adults available at reduced prices.

Rest in Peace Brian, you were an inspiration to so many and will be greatly missed throughout the entire community!

On behalf of the Barczyk family and our entire team at The Reptarium, it is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Brian Barczyk.

More than the guiding light of our organization, Brian's fervent passion for reptiles and wildlife, along with his steadfast dedication to education, has touched innumerable hearts and minds globally.

Our deepest sympathies are with Brian's family, his friends, and all those whose lives he has touched. We've lost an exceptional individual – a visionary, mentor, and friend. For those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, Brian's absence leaves an immeasurable void.
As we navigate this difficult time, we find comfort in the memories and the lasting light of Brian's work. He will be deeply missed but indeed, never forgotten.

The Barczyk family invites you to join us for a Public Memorial Walk-through to honor Brian’s memory. The event will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Heritage Church, located at 44625 Schoenherr Rd. Sterling Heights, MI 48313 from 1-3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to show your support by visiting https://thereptarium.com/pages/brianbarczyk . Your engagement and involvement are greatly valued during this time.

Also, at LegaSea's opening, visitors will find Brian's handprints. Guests place their hands in his, continuing his legacy in a simple, yet powerful gesture. Please continue to follow this page for updates.

Brian, we will see you in the next one. Everyone else, see you at LegaSea.

Due to some recent health issues, I have decided to scale down my gecko breeding and hedgehog programs. Here are the geckos that are available, some of them proven, some of them ready to breed, and some recent hatchlings. All lineage and prices available upon request. They can go individually, in groupings, or as a whole lot! No shipping at this time but arrangements for meet ups or delivery can be negotiated.

Unfortunately, I've been very sick since Christmas and haven't been able to do much with the hedgehogs. I did manage to scrape together enough energy and mind power to peek at Kalani's babies. We have 2 girls and 2 boys. 3 of these babies are still available, they will be ready to go home around Valentine's Day! I also had a surprise while spot cleaning what I could in my condition, Helena has also had her babies. I was only able to see 2 little butts, she is not in a nest box with a cam because I thought the little stinker didn't get knocked up. She has shown zero signs of being pregnant and there was no discernible mating activity on cams between her and Fringles lol!

Edit: just had to prove a point, I guess. I completely forgot to add my photos to this post 🫠 First pics are 2 week old babies out of Neil Diamond x Kalani, shown in the second to last pic, and last pic is the new proud parents Fringles x Helena!

If you are interested in a baby, shoot me a message or stop by the website and fill out an adoption application today! www.pixiepetsindiana.com

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all my !

I tried so hard to get bing ai to give me a picture of Santa in a sleigh with hedgehogs pulling on the reins but it was one fail after another. So I went with classic family around a tree and now my new problem is I can't decide which photo is cuter!

Super excited to announce Kalani had her babies this morning! I noticed she hadn't eaten all of her food so I reviewed last night's cam video and can confirm at least 3 beans. Can't wait to see what she and Neil have produced for us. Pics are a ss of the cam vid and one of the proud parents.

Special Note: nest was not disturbed for this photo op, this is a cam attached to the nest box with night vision capabilities. It is incredibly dangerous for the babies to mess with mom or the nest for at least two weeks after birth. Risks still exist outside of two weeks but diminish as they grow.

These babies will be available for adoption at 8 weeks or 200 grams, as long as Mom decides she likes being a mom 😅. An adoption application can be found at www.pixiepetsindiana.com along with our policies, q&a, complete care guide, and more!

Edit: FB decided it wasn't going to tag ppl for me so I fixed it manually. Idk what's been going on with this feature lately but it's been hard or impossible to tag groups of people. If I missed welcoming you to the group, please know it's not on purpose. FB tells me who to tag and when 🤷‍♀️

Waitlist is open for next litters! These babies should be ready to go home sometime around Christmas. I cannot guarantee ready by Christmas as both these pairs took their sweet time getting down to business and gestation times are a guessing game.

Visit www.pixiepetsindiana.com for info on how to get on the waitlist!

I have not read this book myself but I've seen enough of it and heard enough about it to know that it's absolute trash.

The author and publishers of this book did these breeders dirty! They used good quotes and turned around and wrote bad info and a lot of inappropriate pictures. Now reputable breeders' names are forever tied to this streaming pile of hot garbage and it's not fair to them!

If you are ever in doubt about the standards of care for a hedgehog, please reach out to a pedigreed breeder or several. We are always happy to answer questions or point you in the right direction for better source material, a lot of us have extensive care guides already written!

I was so excited when I saw a post looking for images of hedgehogs and their care to be donated to a publisher that was creating a Hedgehog Care book. I thought that it would be amazing to have my images in a care book and to have a book I could finally recommend to others! I thought, yes “finally there will be a book for people and kids that will have the proper care instructions.” I received the book and it looks amazing and just skimming through it, it seemed great… but I was wrong. Yesterday I sat down and read through the whole thing. Yes there is some great information in there but there is also some really bad too.. This is what I’ve found so far in the book that just isn’t true and also could be very dangerous.

They state in the wheel section of the book what the proper wheel requirements are (and this information is correct) but then show three images of hedgehogs with improper wheels 😫 could be very misleading & confusing for first time owners..

They recommend straw or mulch as proper bedding choices. (Straw will mold and mulch is full of chemicals and dyes.) Those are not good options at all.

It says that hedgehogs need vaccines. Not true.

It says that their teeth are constantly growing and they need stuff to chew on. (They are not rodents!)

Claims that you should buy a collar with id tag, harness and a leash. (Those could cause neck injuries)

The book says that hedgehog food is an appropriate diet, & that cat food is bad for them. When in fact it is the opposite.

It says hedgehogs enjoy climbing and a wire cage and ladder toys are encouraged. hedgehogs have horrible depth perception and are clumsy. They shouldn’t have levels in their cages or climbing options because it’ll lead to injuries.

It says that quills will become tangled and matted if not brushed regularly. I have no idea what they meant from this unless they are talking about when p**p gets stuck in their quills it can cause them to be stuck together.. but that’s a bad way of describing that.

The book states that heating pads are acceptable to use. (Heating pads only heat that one spot. They need an ambient temp of 74-80 degrees. Also pads can cause burns.)

States that tanks are a good option. They aren’t. They lack proper ventilation and other bad things can occur with them especially if you have a heat lamp being used with it!

They do recommend a water bottle (but however don’t mention that the typical ball valve bottles can cause injuries to their tongues. Only valve stem bottles like with chicken ni***es are safe.

It says that safe toys are: exercise balls (not safe), scratching posts (not safe) Willow balls and woven baskets (also not safe)

Then the last thing I saw at the very end of the book mentions that you should hold newborns right away (I never recommend holding a baby before it is 2 weeks old) and that syringe feeding them will make them more tame 😡

There are lot of “expert statements” from breeders that are quoted in the book & they are very spot on with the information, but then the book goes and contradicts what they have said.. some information in there that is horrible that I don’t know where they got that from. So all in all I can’t stand behind it. I don’t recommend buying this book. Very disappointing. I hope one day to be a part of making a book that will have all the right information.
