Umber & Dragon Exotic Rehabilitation serves NE Indiana and surrounding areas in taking in ill or unwanted exotic animals for forever homes. If you are struggling to rehome your exotic animal, please contact us directly at (260) 705-8205 or email at [email protected]. Your pet will

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you are struggling to care for an exotic animal! We do not accept all exotics. list includes:

Falafel is ready for his new home! He is 2 years old and will require a 55+ gallon tank. African sidenecks top out at around 7-12 inches at maturity, so he will need 10 gallons an inch as he grows.

Adoption fee is $35.

Biscoff decided to be problematic and a little bit more of a severe case than I expected. That means we may be getting another unadoptable sanctuary resident. Her crookedness matches Pastramiโ€™s, our Merauke blue tongue skink.

Big rescue this Wednesday and we will have lots up for adoption this coming month! 3/4 ball pythons, California king snake, red-eared slider, green iguana, Chinese water dragon, 2 leopard geckos, and a red tegu!

Because someone asked, I now have a Venmo that is specifically for donations regarding the rescue!

In the past year I have spent well over $5000 out of my own pocket building Umber & Dragon. I believe making dreams into reality take work and dedication and will never be gifted. I have rescued over 125 reptiles since the beginning and will be giving love, care, medical help and forever homes to the surrounding areaโ€™s herps as long as I possibly can!

Much of my rescue is physically built on generous donations of things like enclosures, stands, lamps, bowls, hides, etc., but behind the scenes, every vet appointment, 200 mile drive, electric bill, and superworm comes out of my own pocket. I have no state funding, no backing supporters, and no tax exemption.

This is not a plea for financial help but a resource if anyone would like to support my rescue and the lives I save every day!

I keep every picture and drawing that comes with surrenders. As hard as it is for a child to let go of their beloved pet, I try and let them know that their critter is always thinking of them. Always. โค๏ธ

It's turtle season!

Please make sure to drive aware and alert on roads that are near water or fields. Turtles are commonly passing along and they don't know you're driving! This little guy, who I've named Stitch, had half of his shell broken off and was bleeding out on the road. I was able to patch him up and he is awake and alert.

If you are a reptilian lover like me, it is always a good idea to carry a waterproof epoxy or resin with you in your car. Cracks are usually not fatal to turtles, but if their inner tissues are affected this can be used as an emergency sealant.

As you can see here, I first cleaned the wound on Stitch's separated shell with clean gauze and wildlife-grade soap (Dawn is good, remember the duckling commercial!). I carefully adhered the broken piece of shell back on with epoxy, making sure to only touch the OUTER shell and no internals. Once the seal dried, I wrapped Stitch in more gauze and secured the gauze onto itself with duct tape. I then used a strand of fishing line to tie everything tight together so that the shell does not separate again.

When the shell is safely together back into one piece, you can brush a waterproof resin around the cracks to prevent infection. This can be buffed lightly with sandpaper. Turtle will normally be okay to release back into water!
