Sometimes dental disease progresses to the point where a sedated oral exam and dental cleaning are necessary. During the exam, tartar and plaque are removed by ultrasonic scaling and curettage. Teeth are then polished to reduce the rate of future tartar build-up. Your veterinarian will examine and probe teeth for periodontal pockets. Extractions are sometimes necessary to maintain your pet’s oral health.
